PRODUCED TWO COMMUNITY ART EVENTS THAT WERE VIEWED BY OVER 10,000 PEOPLE:STANDBY SNOW: CHRONICLES OF A HEATWAVE, CHAPTER TWO, AN OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE ON WEST CREEK RANCH IN EMIGRANT, MT WHICH RAN FOR THREE NIGHTS IN AUGUST 2021. THIS RESEARCH-BASED PROJECT WAS PRODUCED IN DIALOGUE WITH ADVISORS FROM OUR REGION, INCLUDING NATIVE STUDIES SCHOLARS, A FIRE SCIENTIST, AN ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST, A CLIMATE DATA ANALYST, RANCHERS AND FIRE FIGHTERS FROM SOUTHWESTERN MONTANA. STANDBY SNOW CHRONICLES CURRENT REGIONAL CLIMATE REALITIES AND SPECULATES ABOUT POSSIBLE METHODS OF ENVIRONMENTAL REGENERATION. OVER 200 PEOPLE ATTENDING THE PERFORMANCES OVER THE THREE-NIGHT PERIOD.LIGHTING OF THE TEEPEES: ILLUMINATING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY, A 10-DAY ART INSTALLATION IN COLLABORATION WITH PRETTY SHIELD FOUNDATION AND THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN TRIBAL LEADERS COUNCIL OF BILLINGS. SEVEN TEEPEES WERE INSTALLED ON PEETS HILL IN BOZEMAN, MT AND LIGHTED NIGHTLY ACROSS THE TEN DAYS SURROUNDING INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY IN OCTOBER 2021. THE INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTED AND CELEBRATED INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY. AN INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY PROGRAM WAS CREATED THAT INCLUDED A READING OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY PROCLAMATION BY MAYOR CINDY ANDRUS, MULTIPLE SPEAKERS, INDIGENOUS SINGERS, DRUMMERS, AND A COMMUNITY ROUND DANCE. MANY SCHOOL CLASSES TOOK FIELD TRIPS AND CONDUCTED CLASS INSIDE AN AUTHENTIC INDIGENOUS TEEPEE AND LEARNED ABOUT INDIGENOUS CULTURE. THE TEEPEES WERE ACCESSIBLE TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY, 24-HOURS PER DAY AND WERE VISITED BY OVER 10,000 PEOPLE.A TEEPEE WAS INSTALLED AT THE GARDINER ENTRANCE OF YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE THE 1800S.THE TEEPEE INSTALLATION WAS PART OF A PLANNING RETREAT INVOLVING SEVENTEEN INTER-TRIBAL INDIGENOUS SCHOLARS, ARTISTS AND DESIGNERS INCLUDING ARCHEOLOGISTS, ANTHROPOLOGISTS, HISTORIANS, ENVIRONMENTALISTS, EDUCATORS, ARCHITECTS, ENGINEERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, ARTISTS AND YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK ADMINISTRATORS. THIS EVENT KICKED OFF THE IMPORTANT PLANNING DISCUSSIONS OF 2022 PROJECT, YELLOWSTONE REVEALED, A SERIES OF INSTALLATIONS THAT WILL BE TEMPORARY, NON-INVASIVE PROJECTS DESIGNED TO DEMONSTRATE THE CONTINUED PRESENCE OF INDIGENOUS PEOPLE IN THE YELLOWSTONE REGION. THE PROJECTS WILL SEEK TO PUT FORWARD INDIGENOUS TRUTHS AND PERSPECTIVES AND COINCIDES WITH THE PARKS 150TH ANNIVERSARY.
