CREATED TO HONOR THE LEGACY OF A BELOVED SPACE INDUSTRY PIONEER AND ACCOMPLISHED PILOT, DAWN BROOKE OWENS (1980 2016), THE BROOKE OWENS FELLOWSHIP IS DESIGNED TO SERVE BOTH AS AN INSPIRATION AND AS A CAREER BOOST TO CAPABLE YOUNG WOMEN AND OTHER GENDER MINORITIES WHO, LIKE BROOKE, ASPIRE TO EXPLORE OUR SKY AND STARS, TO SHAKE UP THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY, AND TO HELP THEIR FELLOW PEOPLE HERE ON PLANET EARTH. WE DO THIS BY MATCHING UP TO FORTY STUDENTS PER YEAR WITH PURPOSE-DRIVEN, PAID INTERNSHIPS AT LEADING AEROSPACE COMPANIES AND ORGANIZATIONS AND WITH SENIOR AND EXECUTIVE LEVEL MENTORS.

OUR ORGANIZATIONS ACCOMPLISHMENTS FOR 2022 INCLUDE:A. THE BROOKE OWENS FELLOWSHIP PROVIDES AROUND 40 WOMEN AND GENDER-MINORITY UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WITH SUMMER INTERNSHIPS AT LEADING AEROSPACE ORGANIZATIONS AND EXECUTIVE MENTORSHIP FROM LEADERS IN THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY.B. IN 2022, THE BROOKE OWENS FELLOWSHIP WELCOMED ITS SIXTH CLASS OF BROOKE OWENS FELLOWS, MATCHING 51 STUDENTS TO INTERNSHIPS AT SPACEX, BLUE ORIGIN, NASA, AND OTHERS.C. THE BROOKE OWENS FELLOWSHIP FOUNDED A SPINOFF PROGRAM, THE PATTI GRACE SMITH FELLOWSHIP IN 2020, WHICH PROVIDES AROUND 40 AFRICAN-AMERICAN AND BLACK AMERICAN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS WITH THEIR FIRST AEROSPACE INDUSTRY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE, AND MATCHES THEM TO EXECUTIVE-LEVEL LEADERS IN THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY.E. IN 2022, THE SPINOFF PROGRAM PATTI GRACE SMITH FELLOWSHIP WELCOMED ITS SECOND CLASS OF PATTI GRACE SMITH FELLOWS, MATCHING 39 BLACK AND AFRICAN-AMERICAN UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS TO INTERNSHIPS AT AEROSPACE INDUSTRY ORGANIZATIONS, GIVING EACH STUDENT A $2,000 CASH GRANT, AND MATCHING THE STUDENTS TO EXECUTIVE MENTORS IN THE AEROSPACE INDUSTRY.F. OVER 100 STUDENTS FROM THE BROOKE OWENS FELLOWSHIP AND ITS SPINOFF PROGRAM PARTICIPATED IN A 5-DAY SUMMIT, HELD WHERE THEY PARTICIPATED IN LEADERSHIP-BUILDING ACTIVITIES LIKE DELIVERING A TEAM GRAND CHALLENGE SOLUTION, RECEIVED EXECUTIVE MENTORING, AND HEARD FROM AEROSPACE PANELS OF EXPERTS.
