THE MISSION OF I-ASC IS TO ADVANCE COMMUNICATION ACCESS FOR NONSPEAKING INDIVIDUALS GLOBALLY THROUGH TRAINING, EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, AND RESEARCH. I-ASC'S PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE A VOICE TO NONSPEAKING, MINIMALLY SPEAKING, AND UNRELIABLY SPEAKING INDIVIDUALS THROUGH AAC, SPECIFICALLY THROUGH A METHOD CALLED SPELLING TO COMMUNICATE (S2C).

TRAINING - S2C PRACTITIONER TRAINING STARTED 129 NEW PRACTITIONERS IN 12 COHORTS IN 2021 JOINING THE 139 ESTABLISHED PRACTITIONERS. I-ASC PRACTITIONERS ARE NOW SERVING PEOPLE IN 29 US STATES AND 4 CANADIAN PROVINCES ALONG WITH MANY INTERNATIONAL COUNTRIES. I-ASC WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE TUITION ASSISTANCE TO 35% OF THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE 12 COHORTS. PRACTITIONERS PAY THEIR SCHOLARSHIP FORWARD BY PROVIDING FREE SERVICES TO NONSPEAKING CLIENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITY, OFFERING A FREE SESSION PER EVERY $100 OF TUITION ASSISTANCE THEY RECEIVE. CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR OUR REGISTERED S2C PRACTITIONERS WAS KEY TO OUR LAUNCHING THE PRACTITIONER PORTAL. OVER 40 OF OUR REGISTERED S2C PRACTITIONERS ARE ACTING AS MENTORS AND GRADERS IN OUR TRAINING PROGRAM.
EDUCATION - WE CONTINUED PROVIDING FREE EVENTS AND RESOURCES THROUGHOUT 2021. ADDING SOME 38+ FREE LESSONS, 57+ INFORMATIVE ARTICLES, AND 17+ MOTOR HACKS TO THE WEBSITE. THE POPULAR MONTHLY NEUROLYRICAL CAFE WITH 700+ ATTENDEES OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS CONTINUED IN 2021. I-ASC ALSO HOSTED 9 NEW TOPIC FREE WEBINARS AND 7 COMMUNITY VISITS. ALL IN ALL TOTALLY AROUND 52 FREE MONTHLY TALKS AND WEBINARS ATTENDED BY 1987 PEOPLE. I-ASC LEADERSHIP AND NONSPEAKERS PRESENTED IN OVER 10 CONFERENCES IN 2021. EVENTS CULMINATED IN JULY 2021 WITH THE 5TH ANNUAL MOTORMORPHOSIS CONFERENCE WITH 400+ ATTENDEES AND SEVEN PRESENTERS. WHILE THIS YEAR WAS VIRTUAL ONCE AGAIN IT CONTINUED TO BE THE ORIGINAL AND PRIMARY S2C CONFERENCE SHARING NEW AND VITAL INFORMATION FOR THE CONTINUED PROGRESS OF NONSPEAKING COMMUNICATION ACCESS. KEYNOTE SPEAKERS WERE GREGORY TINO AND JAMIE HANDLEY DISCUSSING NONSPEAKING ACCOMPLISHMENTS.
ADVOCACY - THE NONSPEAKING LEADERSHIP COUNCIL'S 5 MEMBERS CONTINUED TO PARTICIPATE IN NUMEROUS FACETS OF THE SPELLERVERSE. WRITING BLOGS, HOSTING I-ASC EVENTS, AND ATTENDING CONFERENCES. THE NLC WERE ALSO THE JURORS FOR OUR SPELLTEMBER SPELLEBRITIES - SELECTING THE 43 SPELLERS TO BE HONORED. SPELLERS & ALLIES ADVOCACY NETWORK WITH OVER 50 MEMBERS WROTE 500+ LETTERS FOR A PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN. THEY PRESENTED AT MOTORMORPHOSIS 2021 AND WORKED ON GROWING THEIR NETWORK. FEBRUARY 2021 SHOWCASED OUR FIRST ANNUAL FREE BOARDS & CHORDS CONCERT WITH 500+ REGISTRANTS. TWENTY NONSPEAKERS WROTE BEAUTIFULLY PERFORMED SONGS IN THIS ONE OF A KIND MUSIC FESTIVAL THAT WAS SIMPLY EARTH SHATTERING. NOVEMBER BROUGHT BACK OUR 2ND ANNUAL SPELLX EVENT WITH 1400+ REGISTRANTS IN 38 COUNTRIES ATTENDING. OVER 30 NONSPEAKERS CAME TO TOGETHER FOR THIS VIRTUAL SALON-STYLE EVENT, PASSIONATELY SHARING THEIR POETRY, TALENTS, AND WORDS. DEMONSTRATING ONCE AGAIN THAT NONSPEAKING DOES NOT MEAN NONTHINKING!
