IN JAMAICA, CDFI'S WORK IS CONCENTRATED AT WESTHAVEN CHILDREN'S HOME, WHERE APPROXIMATELY 100 DISABLED WARDS OF THE STATE RESIDE. CDFI ESTABLISHED AND MAINTAINS A SCHOOL THERE, AND EMPLOYS THREE FULL TIME AND ONE PART TIME SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS. CDFI ALSO ESTABLISHED AND MAINTAINS A HEALTH CLINIC THERE, EMPLOYING TWO FULL TIME AND ONE PART TIME NURSES. CDFI PROVIDES SUPPLIES FOR BOTH THE SCHOOL AND THE HEALTH CLINIC. IN 2023, CDFI ENABLED 9 WARDS TO PARTICIPATE IN SPECIAL OLYMPICS IN KINGSTON, AND ENABLED 5 WARDS TO ATTEND EMPOWERMENT TRAINING. CDFI PROVIDED FUNDS FOR FIELD TRIPS AND CELEBRATIONS AT THE CHILDREN'S HOME AND SPONSORED A MISSION TRIP FOR ADULTS AND TEENS TO WORK WITH THE WARDS FOR ONE WEEK.
IN KENYA, CDFI SUPPORTS APPROXIMATELY 260 DISABLED CHLDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. CDFI EMPLOYS TEN STAFF TO COORDINATE THE PROGRAM. CDFI PAYS THE SCHOOL FEES FOR THOSE CHILDREN WHO ARE ABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL AND COORDINATES A CHILD SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM, WHERE SPONSORS ARE PUT IN DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH THEIR SPONSORED CHILD AND HIS OR HER FAMILY, AND ENCOURAGED TO PRAY FOR THE CHILD. CDFI HAS ESTABLISED A MIRCRO ENTERPRISE SYSTEM WHICH ENABLES PARENTS OF THE CHILDREN IN THE PROGRAM TO SUPPORT THEMSELVES. IN 2023, CDFI PURCHASED SEEDS AND FERTILIZER FOR EVERY FAMILY IN THE PROGRAM SO THAT THEY COULD GROW THEIR OWN FOOD. BECAUSE THESE FAMILIES LIVE IN MUD HOUSES WITHOUT PLUMBING OR ELECTRICITY, AND WITH VERY LITTLE FURNITURE, THE DISABLED CHILDREN WERE SLEEPING EITHER ON THIN MATS OR ON THE GROUND. CDFI PURCHASED MATTRESSES, SHEETS AND PILLOWS FOR EVERY CHILD IN THE PROGRAM. CDFI PAID FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A BATH HOUSE ON THE PROPERTY WHICH WAS PURCHASED THE PREVIOUS YEAR FOR HEADQUATERS FOR THE PROGRAM. SIX ABANDONED DISABLED CHLDREN HAVE COME INTO THE CUSTODY OF CDFI AND RESIDE AT A FOSTER HOME BUILT ON THE PROPERTY.
