Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
TO EMPOWER REFUGEES TO SUSTAIN NEW HOMES FIND NEW HOPE AND FULLY EXPERIENCE LIFE. WE DO THIS SO THAT EVERY REFUGEE WILL HAVE A HOME THAT SUPPORTS SAFETY FREEDOM AND DIGNITY. WHAT ENABLES US TO DO THIS IS THE GUIDING BELIEF THAT WITHIN EVERY CITY WHERE A REFUGEE RESETTLES EXISTS THE RESOURCES TO HELP THEM FIND A PLACE TO CALL HOME THROUGH THE SUPPORT OF THEIR NEW COMMUNITY.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
OUR MAIN PROGRAM IS OUR COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM WHICH SUPPORTS REFUGEES WHO ARE RESETTLED THROUGH AN OFFICIAL REFERRAL AGENCY. WHEN A FAMILY OR INDIVIDUAL GAINS A VISA TO RESETTLE IN THE U.S. EITHER AS A REFUGEE OR A SPECIAL IMMIGRANT VISA HOLDER THEY ARE SERVED BY A REFERRAL AGENCY WHO HELPS THEM GAIN ACCESS TO HOUSING INITIAL RESETTLEMENT FUNDS AND SOME SOCIAL SERVICES. BEYOND THAT THEIR ABILITY TO SUPPORT THE RESETTLEMENT EFFORT IS VERY LIMITED. THAT'S WHERE OUR PARTNERSHIP BEGINS AS WE ARE ABLE TO FORM TEAMS OF VOLUNTEERS FROM FAITH AND COMMUNITY GROUPS WHO WILL SERVE THE REFUGEE FAMILY OR INDIVIDUAL FOR THE YEAR PROVIDING WRAP-AROUND SUPPORT. WE RECRUIT TRAIN AND MATCH COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIP TEAMS WITH REFUGEES AND THEN COACH THEM AS THEY WORK WITH THE FAMILY FOR 12 MONTHS. IN FORMING THESE TEAMS WE ARE ABLE TO 1 HELP WITH THE CORE BASIC NEEDS FOR EACH REFUGEE: JOB COACHING HEALTH ADVOCACY FINANCIAL COACHING PRACTICING CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH CHILD EDUCATION ADVOCACY. 2RESPOND QUICKLY TO THE UNIQUE NEEDS OF A REFUGEE FAMILY AT ANY STAGE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. 3 SEE REFUGEES ACHIEVE INDEPENDENCE AND BECOME VITAL CONTRIBUTORS AS NEW AMERICANS WITHIN THEIR COMMUNITIES. 4 DEVELOP COMMUNITY SUPPORT BY PARTNERING WITH FAITH AND COMMUNITY GROUPS COMPANIES LAW FIRMS MENTAL HEALTH AGENCIES COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND MORE TO HELP WITH REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT. 5 GROW THE SUPPORT OF REFUGEE RESETTLEMENT IN THE UNITED STATES BY VOLUNTEERS BECOMING LIFELONG ADVOCATES FROM RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR NEW REFUGEE FRIENDS BY UNDERSTANDING THEIR EXPERIENCE FROM A PERSONAL ACCOUNT AND MUCH MORE. IN THIS FISCAL YEAR WE WERE ABLE TO ESTABLISH TWENTY FIVE COMMUNITY SPONSORSHIP TEAMS CONSISTING OF 150 VOLUNTEERS WHO EACH MADE A ONE-YEAR COMMITMENT OF SERVICE. IN TOTAL WE WERE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY RESETTLE 150 REFUGEES.
THE SPONSOR CIRCLE PROGRAM IS AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE LAUNCHED THROUGH A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WITH THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE TO SUPPORT AFGHAN AND UKRAINIAN NEWCOMERS IN GETTING OFF FROM SAFE HAVENS AND INTO WELCOMING COMMUNITIES. HOME FOR REFUGEES USA RECRUITS VETS TRAINS COACHES AND OVERSEES VOLUNTEER TEAMS OF AT LEAST 5 PEOPLE WHO PROVIDE HOLISTIC SUPPORT TO RESETTLE AFGHAN NEWCOMERS IN UNITED STATES. THIS PROGRAM IS EXPECTED TO SUPPORT THOSE AFGHANS WHO WILL BE BROUGHT TO THE US BY THE US GOVERNMENT THROUGH THE END OF THE YEAR AND WILL LAY THE FOUNDATION FOR A FUTURE PRIVATE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM. WE ARE SEEKING TO SCALE NOT JUST TO ADDRESS THE CURRENT EMERGENCY BUT TO PROVIDE LASTING SUPPORT FOR THE FUTURE OF RESETTLEMENT IN THE UNITED STATES. SPONSOR CIRCLES BUILD SAFE TRUSTING AND CONSISTENT RELATIONSHIPS WHERE SUPPORT IS GIVEN TO NAVIGATE SOCIAL SERVICES HEALTHCARE FOOD RESOURCES SCHOOLING NEEDS FINDING ESL CLASSES NAVIGATING TRANSPORTATION NEEDS JOB DEVELOPMENT AND EMPLOYMENT FINDING LOW-INCOME HOUSING ACCESSING LOCAL SUPPORT SERVICES AND LOCATING RESOURCES FOR THEIR RELIGIOUS FAITH. HFR COACHES INTEND TO PROVIDE ONGOING SUPPORT FOR THE MINIMUM 90-DAY RESETTLEMENT PERIOD WITH THE OPTION TO EXTEND UP TO A YEAR FOR EACH SPONSOR CIRCLE. HOME FOR REFUGEES CURRENTLY SUPPORTS 30 SPONSOR CIRCLES; INCLUSIVE OF 150+ VOLUNTEERS AND 150+ AFGHAN INDIVIDUALS ACROSS THE NATION.
WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DEVELOP A PARTNERSHIP WITH UC IRVINE SCHOOL OF NURSING. WE ASSIST WITH AN ELECTIVE COURSE THAT EXPOSES STUDENTS TO VULNERABLE POPULATIONS AND TRAINING THEM TO ASSIST WITH THE MEDICAL NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES. THIS HAS HELPED DOZENS OF REFUGEE FAMILIES RECEIVE HEALTHCARE ADVICE AND BETTER UNDERSTAND THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE EMPOWERED TO MAKE DECISIONS ON THEIR OWN.
