Part 3

AT THE CULTURAL ARTS SOCIETY OF WEST JORDAN (CASWJ), WE ARE COMMITTED TO PROMOTING DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION IN ALL ASPECTS OF OUR PROGRAMMING AND OUTREACH. WE RECOGNIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGAGING HISTORICALLY UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES IN THE ARTS AND HAVE MADE SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS TO DO SO. WE OFFER A SAFE AND WELCOMING SPACE FOR MEMBERS OF THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR PROGRAMS AND PERFORMANCES. OUR YOUTH THEATRE GROUP PROVIDES A SUPPORTIVE AND NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FOR LGBTQ YOUTH TO EXPLORE THEIR CREATIVITY AND DEVELOP THEIR CONFIDENCE. WE ALSO PRIORITIZE REPRESENTATION AND INCLUSION IN CASTING AND CASTING CHOICES FOR OUR PRODUCTIONS. ONE EXAMPLE IS THE LEAD IN ONE OF OUR PRODUCTIONS BEING A RECENTLY TRANSITIONED TRANSGENDER ACTOR, HE SHARED WITH ME AND HIS SOCIAL MEDIA COMMUNITY THE MEANING THE OPPORTUNITY MEANT TO HIM. IN ADDITION, WE HAVE COLLABORATED WITH LOCAL SENIOR CENTERS AND RETIREMENT HOMES TO BRING OUR SENIOR BAND PERFORMANCES DIRECTLY TO THOSE WHO MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND OUR EVENTS IN PERSON, PARTICULARLY SENIORS WHO MAY FEEL ISOLATED OR UNDERREPRESENTED IN THE ARTS. WE ARE PROUD TO OFFER MANY OF OUR PERFORMANCES AND EVENTS FOR FREE, ENSURING THAT COST IS NOT A BARRIER TO PARTICIPATION FOR MEMBERS OF UNDERREPRESENTED COMMUNITIES. WE ALSO OFFER FREE TICKETS TO THOSE IN NEED THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROGRAMS. OVERALL, AT CASWJ, WE ARE COMMITTED TO CREATING AN INCLUSIVE AND ACCESSIBLE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE ARTS. WE BELIEVE THAT THE ARTS ARE A POWERFUL TOOL FOR BUILDING BRIDGES, FOSTERING UNDERSTANDING, AND CELEBRATING DIVERSITY, AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO PRIORITIZE DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION IN ALL ASPECTS OF OUR WORK.
