HELPING THE PEOPLE OF NORTHERN UGANDA REALIZE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL THROUGH EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
DUE TO OUR GRACIOUS DONORS, THE HEALTH CRISIS REMAINED MANAGEABLE FOR OUR NAHLA SCHOOL OPERATIONS. MORE SPECIFICALLY, WE STAYED THE COURSE CONTINUING TO CLOSE THE EDUCATION INEQUITY GAP AS WE PROVIDED ACCESS TO SAFE, SOCIALLY DISTANCED, REMOTE IN-PERSON EDUCATION FOR MORE THAN 400 CHILDREN. WITHOUT THIS SUPPORT, THESE CHILDREN WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE LIFE CHANGING OPPORTUNITY OF EDUCATION.
AGAIN, DUE TO OUR GRACIOUS DONORS, WE WERE ABLE TO COMPLETE CONSTRUCTION OF OUR SECOND SCHOOL, HAYDEN. DESPITE THE HEALTH CRISIS, RELATED CONSTRUCTION DELAYS, AND SIGNIFICANT COST INCREASES, WE WERE ABLE TO PUT THE FINAL TOUCHES ON THE SCHOOL. AS WE HAVE MENTIONED PREVIOUSLY, HAYDEN WAS BUILT IN AREA THAT IS HOME TO A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF CHILDREN WHO ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND SCHOOL. IN FACT, THE CLOSEST SCHOOL IS A COSTLY PRIVATE INSTITUTION, AND THE NEAREST PUBLIC SCHOOL IS SEVERAL HOURS AWAY. ULTIMATELY, HAYDEN WILL BE ABLE TO ACCOMMODATE 350 TO 400 STUDENTS.
AND FINALLY, CLOSING IN ON THE EXPECTED OPENING DATE FOR HAYDEN (Q1 2022), WE READIED THE CAMPUS ADDING FURNITURE FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS, PURCHASING NECESSARY SCHOOL SUPPLIES, AND PULLING IN GENERAL LABOR FOR A GROUNDS MAKE-READY. ALTHOUGH, WITH THIS SAID, WE DO EXPECT TO FALL SHORT OF FULL 2022 OPERATING FUNDS FOR HAYDEN. THE DEKI LEADERSHIP TEAM IS EXPLORING OPTIONS FOR A PARTIAL OPENING.
