IN FISCAL YEAR 2023, THE BAIL PROJECT MARKED SIX YEARS OF OPERATIONS WITH MORE THAN 30,000 INDIVIDUALS HELPED NATIONWIDE AND OVER $81 MILLION IN FREE BAIL ASSISTANCE. THE BAIL PROJECT SUPPORTED THESE CLIENTS IN MORE THAN 111,000 COURT DATES FOR A 92% COURT APPEARANCE RATE, OFFERING FURTHER EVIDENCE THAT CASH BAIL IS NOT A NECESSARY INCENTIVE TO ENSURE PEOPLE RETURN TO COURT. THIS HIGH RETURN TO COURT RATE CONTINUES TO ENSURE THE SUSTAINABILITY OF THE BAIL PROJECT'S NATIONAL REVOLVING BAIL FUND WITH 91% OF BAIL PAYMENTS RETURNING AFTER CASES CLOSE AND ALLOWING THE ORGANIZATION TO HELP ADDITIONAL PEOPLE. IN FY23, THE BAIL PROJECT CONTINUED ITS WORK TO ADVANCE EVIDENCE-BASED PRETRIAL POLICY REFORMS AT THE LOCAL, STATE, AND NATIONAL LEVELS THROUGH LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY, RESEARCH, PUBLIC EDUCATION, AND STORYTELLING. TAKEN ALONGSIDE OUR DIRECT SERVICES, OUR ADVOCACY WORK ENGAGES AUDIENCES WITH FACTS ABOUT BAIL, HUMAN STORIES, AND OUR RESEARCH TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD FOR THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE EACH YEAR.
