BLACK GIRLS COOK IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION WITH A MISSION TO TEACH ADOLESCENT GIRLS OF COLOR SELF-ACTUALIZATION ACTIVITIES AND LIFE-SKILLS THROUGH THE USE OF CULINARY ARTS AND EDIBLE GARDENING WITH AN EMPHASIS ON BLACK FOODWAYS. WE TAUGHT OVER 75 GIRLS RESIDING IN UNDER-REPRESENTED NEIGHBORHOODS THE IMPORTANCE OF OPTIMAL HEALTH. BLACK GIRLS COOK'S CORE PROGRAMMING INCLUDES THE BGC CULINARY PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES HANDS-ON COOKING TRAINING AND LESSONS ON BLACK FOOD HISTORY AND FOODWAYS; THE BGC EDIBLE GARDENING PROGRAM WHICH TEACHES PARTICIPANTS HOW TO GROW VEGETABLES, HERBS AND UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF GROWING THEIR OWN FOODS; AND KITCHEN SINK BEAUTY WHICH TEACHES PARTICIPANTS ABOUT SKIN CARE DURING THE PUBERTY STAGE AND HOW TO CREATE BEAUTY AND HAIRCARE PRODUCTS WITH INGREDIENTS FOUND IN THEIR KITCHEN FOR PROFIT.
