OPERA PERFORMANCES FOR 2023ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD WITH MUSIC BY JACQUES OFFENBACH. TWO LIVELY AND IMAGINATIVE PERFORMANCES OF THE OPERA - ORPHEUS IN THE UNDERWORLD. INVOLVING: 10 PRINCIPAL SINGERS, 8 CHORUS SINGERS, 13 ORCHESTRA MUSICIANS AND 11 DIRECTORS, DESIGNERS, STAGE MANAGERS AND STAGE STAFF. APPROXIMATELY 420 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE 2 PERFORMANCES.SCALIA/GINSBERG BY DERRICK WANG. THIS RELATIVELY NEW OPERA IS A DISCOURSE BETWEEN TWO USA SUPREME COURT JUSTICES - RUTH BADER GINSBERG AND ANTONIN SCALIA. TWO JUSTICES WHO HAD DIFFERING VIEWS BUT ALSO A CLOSE FRIENDSHIP BUILT AROUND THEIR LOVE OF OPERA. ONE LIVE PERFORMANCE TOOK PLACE AT CORNELL UNIVERSITY BUT THE DEMAND WAS SO GREAT THE DRESS REHEARSAL WAS OPENED TO AN AUDIENCE. INVOLVED: 3 PRINCIPAL SINGERS, 7 ORCHESTRA MUSICIANS AND 6 DIRECTORS, DESIGNERS, STAGE MANAGERS AND STAGE STAFF. APPROXIMATELY 200 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE PERFORMANCE AND DRESS REHEARSAL.
MURRAY VOICE COMPETITION- OUR ANNUAL VOICE COMPETITION GIVES YOUNG ARTISTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPETE FOR RECOGNITION AND MODEST PRIZES. THERE WERE 75 CONTESTANTS, 3 JUDGES AND 1 ACCOMPANIST
2023 OPERA ITHACA FESTIVAL:A SINGER'S SINGER: BIOGRAPHY IN MUSIC OF WINNARETTA SINGER- AN AMERICAN PATRONESS IN PARIS. AN INTIMATE CONCERT FEATURING OPERA ITHACA APPRENTICE ARTISTS AT THE GALLERY AT SOUTH HILL, ITHACA, NYCHAT AND CHAMBER MUSIC WITH MOLLY JOYCE AND AUSTIN REGAN. ( SEE " YOU SAIDSHESAIDHESAID ) AN EVENING OF MOLLY JOYCE'S MUSIC AND A LIVELY DISCUSSION ABOUT THE UPCOMING PERFORMANCE OF HER OPERA- YOUSAIDSHESAIDHESAID. LOCATION WAS SIX MILE CREEK VINEYARD, ITHACA, NYRUSALKA BY ANTONIN DVORAK. TWO LIVE PERFORMANCES OF THIS MASTERWORK WITH A SIMILAR TALE TO THE LITTLE MERMAID BUT WITH ALL THE TRAGEDY OF OPERA. INVOLVED 11 PRINCIPAL SINGERS, 7 CHORUS SINGERS, 14 ORCHESTRA MUSICIAN'S AND 8 DIRECTORS, DESIGNERS, SATAGE MANAGERS AND STAGE STAFF.YOUSAIDSHESAIDHESAID BY MOLLY JOYCE AND DIE SCHONE MULLERIN BY FRANZ SCHUBERT. IN SCHUBERT'S ICONIC SONG CYCLE AN ITINERANT LABORER SINGS ABOUT HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH A MILL-GIRL BUT WE NEVER HEAR HER SIDE OF THE STORY. IN - YOUSAIDSHESAIDHESAID THE MILL-GIRL IS GIVEN VOICE TO TELL HER STORY. THIS WAS THE PREMIER OF THIS NEW SONG CYCLE BY MOLLY JOYCE. INVOLVED 2 PRINCIPAL SINGERS, 1 ACCOMPANIST AND 2 DIRECTORS AND STAGE TECHNICIAN'S AND I COMPOSER-IN - RESIDENCE.PRE-PERFORMANCE PANEL DISCUSSIONS TOOK PLACE BEFORE RUSALKA AND YOUSAIDSHESAIDHESAID ON NEURODIVERSITY, DISABILITY, SEXUALITY AND THE ARTS.APPROXIMATELY 380 PEOPLE ATTENDED THE 3 MAJOR FESTIVAL PERFORMANCES.
APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM- THE OPERA ITHACA APPRENTICE ARTIST PROGRAM PREPARES EMERGING VOCALISTS ON THE PERFORMANCE TRACK, WITH A FOCUS ON CULTIVATING AND DEVELOPING TALENT IN NEW YORK STATE. ALL APPRENTICE ARTISTS ARE COMPENSATED, RECEIVE COACHING CLASSES, MENTORSHIP AND PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES. THIS PROGRAM SERVED 7 YOUNG ARTISTS AND ENGAGED 5 FACULTY AND CLINICIANS.
