TO PRESERVE, INTERPRET, AND CONVEY GRAHAM COUNTY, REGIONAL, AND APPALACHIAN HISTORY THROUGH EXHIBITION AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO SHOWCASE OUR HISTORY, MAKING GRAHAM COUNTY A DESIRED HISTORICAL DESTINATION.

WE CONTINUE TO UPDATE OUR HISTORICAL DISPLAYS AT TRAVEL & TOURISM. DISPLAY IS OF BEAR CREEK JUNCTION. THE WINDOW DISPLAYS AT THE BUILDING IS OF A COBLER AND SHOWS HIS SHOE MAKING TOOLS ALONG WITH MORE BEAR CREEK JUNTION ITEMS AND PICTURES. GRAHAM COUNTY SESQUICENTENNIAL WILL BE CELEBRATED IN 2022, SO WE HAVE BEGUN THE PROCESS TO CREATE A PICTORIAL BOOK WITH THE PHOTOS THAT HAVE BEEN DONATED. WE ARE CONTINUING WITH ORAL INTERVIEWS OF OUR GRAHAM COUNTY RESIDENTS. 2020 WE PURCHASED A LAPTOP AND PAST PERFECT SOFTWARE TO CREATE A NUMBERING SYSTEM FOR THE DONATIONS OF ARTIFACTS, PHOTOS, BOOKS, ETC., THAT GRAHAM COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION IS RECEIVING. IN THE PROCESS OF INTERVIEW CURATOR FOR THE CATALOGING OF THE EXISTING COLLECTION OF BOOKS AND ARTIFACTS. WE CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD ON PREPARING THE BUILDING FOR RENOVATIONS. GRANTS WERE WRITTEN AND SUBMITTED, PROJECTS FOR ARCHITURAL DESIGN AND REMOVED A BOILER COVERED IN ASBESTOS WRAP.
WITH THE ONSET OF COVID THIS YEAR WE CONTINUED TO GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT GCHA, BY ATTENDING THE FARMERS MARKET AND SELLING TSHIRTS, 1976 CENTENIAL BOOKS, RAFFLE TICKETS, LOCAL BOOKS, DONATED COSTUME JEWELRY, HANDING OUT BROCHURES AND SIGNING UP NEW MEMBERS. WE ALSO SENT OUT NEWSLETTERS, MARKETED ON SOCIAL MEDIA, WEBSITE AND BROCHURE.HOUSEHOLD ITEMS WERE DONATED, STORED AND SOLD FROM THE BUILDING. THIS HELPS TO MOVE US CLOSER TO THE GOAL OF OPENING THE MUSEUM. RAFFLE ITEMS WERE DONATED, SALES OF BOOKS WERE SPLIT WITH OTHER NON-PROFIT.
