Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
THE PENNSYLVANIA COALITION FOR CIVIL JUSTICE REFORM ("PCCJR") IS A NONPROFIT CORPORATION INCORPORATED IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA. THE VISION OF PCCJR IS TO ADVOCATE FOR A CIVIL JUSTICE SYSTEM THAT TREATS ALL PARTIES FAIRLY AND DISCOURAGES LAWSUIT ABUSE. PCCJR AND ITS MEMBERS BELIEVE THAT A FAIR CIVIL JUSTICE SYSTEM RESOLVES DISPUTES OBJECTIVELY, WITHOUT BIAS AND IN A TIMELY MANNER.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
MEMBERS OF PCCJR WILL ANALYZE EVERY PIECE OF LEGISLATION INTRODUCED IN THE COMMONWEALTH OF PENNSYLVANIA TO DETERMINE ITS IMPACT ON CIVIL LIABILITY AND THE JUSTICE SYSTEM. IN ADDITION, PCCJR WILL ATTEND MEETINGS WITH LEGISLATORS, COMMITTEE MEETINGS AND HEARINGS, PROVIDING TESTIMONY AND WRITTEN REPORTS WHERE REQUESTED OR WHERE DEEMED DESIRABLE BY THE ORGANIZATION. BY SIGNIFICANT INVOLVEMENT WITH THE LEGISLATIVE PROCESS, PCCJR WILL EDUCATE LEGISLATORS, THE GOVERNOR AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC ON CIVIL LITIGATION MATTERS AND WILL PURSUE MORE SENSIBLE CONSUMER PROTECTION LAWS AND CLASS ACTION REFORM WHILE ADVOCATING FOR BETTER ACCESS TO ALTERNATIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION.
PCCJR WILL ROUTINELY REVIEW CASES ON THE APPELLATE COURT DOCKETS, DECISIONS IN WHICH MAY HAVE BROAD REACHING CIVIL JUSTICE IMPLICATIONS THAT FAR EXCEED THE IMPACT ON THE PARTIES INVOLVED IN THE ACTION. FROM TIME TO TIME, PCCJR WILL PROVIDE OR COORDINATE AMICUS BRIEFS IN SUCH MATTERS SO AS TO FULLY ADVISE THE COURT ON ISSUES THAT ARE BROADER THAN THOSE BEING ADDRESSED BY THE PARTIES.
PCCJR INTENDS TO HOST REGULAR MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEONS WITH PROMINENT PENNSYLVANIA OFFICIALS, MEMBERS OF CIVIL JUSTICE ORGANIZATIONS IN OTHER STATES, AND NATIONALLY KNOWN POLICY EXPERTS. THE ORGANIZATION ALSO INTENDS TO DEVELOP A REGULAR NEWSLETTER AND WEBSITE FEATURING THE LATEST CIVIL JUSTICE NEWS, UPDATES ON THE ORGANIZATION'S POLICY AND LEGISLATICE EFFORTS, LINKS TO AMICUS BRIEFS AND OTHER WHITE PAPERS, AND OTHER ANALYSIS OF HOT TOPICS.
