THE ORGANIZATION WAS FORMED IN LATE 2015 FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUNDING ALS RESEARCH USING OPEN WATER AND MARATHON DISTANCE SWIMMING. IN THE PROCESS, A LONG SWIM HAS INITIATED A NUMBER OF EVENTS AND PROGRAMS, AND HAS INVESTED HEAVILY IN GETTING OTHERS STARTED. IN EACH YEAR, APPROXIMATELY 40 VOLUNTEERS DEDICATED 725 HOURS OF SERVICE TO A LONG SWIM EVENTS. IN 2018, A LONG SWIM EXPECTS TO DONATE APPROXIMATELY AN $60,000 TO FUND THE ELLEN MCCONNELL BLAKEMAN ALS RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP AT THE FEINBERG SCHOOL OF MEDICINE AT NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY.
