Part 3 - Line 4a
CAMPAIGN TO STOP GE TREES - WE PRODUCED A SIGN ON LETTER TO THE FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL AS WELL AS A TWITTER CAMPAIGN WITH DAILY TWEETS TARGETING THE FSC ON THE GE TREES ISSUE EVERY DAY OF THEIR GENERAL ASSEMBLY. THESE TWEETS WERE WIDELY SHARED; WE RELEASED GE TREES: NO SOLUTION TO CLIMATE CHANGE STATEMENT DENOUNCING THE PROPOSED USE OF GE TREES IN CLIMATE CHANGE SCHEMES. THE REPORT WAS RELEASED AND DISTRIBUTED IN ENGLISH, SPANISH, PORTUGUESE AND FRENCH; WE ALSO MOBILIZED THE PUBLIC AROUND THE USDA PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD ON GE AMERICAN CHESTNUT (D58) WITH OVERWHELMINGLY REJECTION OF THE PETITION BY RESEARCHERS REQUESTING PERMISSION TO RELEASE THE D58 INTO FORESTS WITH NO MONITORING OR REGULATION; WE PUBLISHED A MAJOR FEATURE ARTICLE IN TRUTHOUT DURING EARTH WEEK 2021. CAMPAIGN COORDINATOR AND GJEP ED ANNE PETERMANN COLLABORATED WITH THE INDEPENDENT MEDIA INSTITUTE TO CREATE A FEATURE ARTICLE FOR TRUTHOUT, WHICH HIGHLIGHTED THE MANY ARGUMENTS AGAINST RELEASE OF THE GEAC INTO FORESTS, INCLUDING A SECTION HIGHLIGHTING INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE TO GE TREES. AFTER ITS PUBLICATION THERE, THE ARTICLE WAS DISTRIBUTED BY IMI THROUGH ITS NETWORK OF ONLINE PUBLICATION AND PICKED UP BY DOZENS OF OUTLETS, REACHING MILLIONS.
GLOBAL JUSTICE MEDIA PROGRAM - WE PRODUCED 22 EARTH MINUTES AND 22 EARTH WATCH INTERVIEWS WITH FRONT LINE SPEAKERS, INDIGENOUS PEOPLES, ACTIVISTS AND AUTHORS ON SOJOURNER TRUTH SHOW ON PACIFICA RADIO IN LOS ANGELES; WE POSTED 8 PHOTO ESSAYS HIGHLIGHTING HISTORICAL MILESTONES; WE CO-SPONSORED TWO WEBINARS HIGHLIGHTING THE RESISTANCE OF FRONT LINE COMMUNITIES TO CLIMATE FALSE SOLUTIONS; AND OUR NEW VOICES SPEAKERS' BUREAU FACILITATED 36 CONTACTS BETWEEN OUR SPEAKERS AND THE MEDIA. OUR NEW BREAKING GREEN PODCAST PRODUCED 6 EPISODES FOCUSED ON FALSE SOLUTIONS TO CLIMATE CHANGE THAT WERE DOWNLOADED NEARLY 1,000 TIMES.
BIOFUELWATCH - BIOFUELWATCH ENGAGED IN VARIOUS ASPECTS OF CLIMATE AND LAND USE POLICY IN OUR REGIONAL GEOGRAPHIES ACROSS THE US AND THE UK, AND WITH OUR LOCAL, STATE AND NATIONAL GOVERNING BODIES. WE WORKED WITH THE VERMONT LEGISLATURE TO ENSURE A NEWLY PASSED "GLOBAL WARMING SOLUTIONS ACT" EMBRACES HOLISTIC GREENHOUSE GAS ACCOUNTING MECHANISMS TO ACCURATELY REPRESENT IMPACTS OF BIOMASS, HYDROELECTRICITY AND FRACKING. BIOFUELWATCH, THOUGH A SMALL ORGANIZATION, CONTINUES TO BE A "GO-TO" RESOURCE FOR MANY ACTIVISTS SEEING RELIABLE INFORMATION ABOUT BIOENERGY AND THE ROLE OF THE LAND SECTOR IN CLIMATE CHANGE.
