ACT AND SAT BOOT CAMPS - TWICE PER ACADEMIC YEAR, PARENTS CONNECTED PROVIDES WORKSHOPS, CONDUCTED BY LEADING PROFESSIONALS, TO HELP STUDENTS PREPARE FOR THE ACT AND SAT COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAMS. THE PREPARATION COURSES ARE OFFEREDAT LOW COST FOR GENERAL PARTICIPANTS. FOR THE YOUNG MEN PARTICIPATING IN OUR MENTORING PROGRAM, THE COURSES ARE MANDATORY AND OFFERED AT NO COST. ALSO, MENTEES WILL BE REFUNDED THE EXAM COST UPON PROOF OF HAVING TAKEN THE EXAM. COLLEGE TOURS - HISTORICAL BLACK COLLEGES UNIVERSITY (HBCU) TOUR: FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS, PARENTS CONNECTED HAS SPONSORED WEEK-LONG TOURS OF HISTORICAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. STUDENTS GAIN UNIQUE INSIGHTS AND PERSPECTIVE ON THE COLLEGE TOURS. MANY STUDENTS ARE OFFERED ON THE SPOT ADMISSION. SOME STUDENTS RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIPS. TOURS ARE OFFERED AT AFFORDABLE AND COMPETITIVE RATES. NORTHERN /SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TOUR: PARENTS CONNECTED WILL OFFER SHORT TERM TOURS TO NORTHERN/SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO EXPOSE STUDENTS TO COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES OUTSIDE OF THEIR IMMEDIATE COMMUNITY. MENTORING PROGRAM - PARENTS CONNECTED ENVISIONS A SPACE, BOTH PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY, WHERE 50 MAGNIFICENT YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN MALES OF OUR COMMUNITY ARE SEEN, HEARD, RESPECTED, AND VALUED. PARENTS CONNECTED HAS DEVELOPED A MENTORING PROGRAM FOCUSED ON THE YOUNG MENS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS, CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT, HEALTHY SELF-IDENTITY, AND COLLEGE READINESS. WE PROVIDE AN INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT SYSTEM TAILORED TO EACH YOUNG MANS NEEDS, BY CONNECTING EVERY YOUNG MAN WITH A RESPECTED AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN FROM THE COMMUNITY. FAFSA NIGHT - PARENTS CONNECTED HOSTS SEVERAL NIGHTS WHERE STUDENTS AND PARENTS WILL BE PROVIDED COMPUTER ACCESS AND GUIDANCE THROUGH EACH STEP OF COMPLETING THE FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID APPLICATION. PERSISTENCE PROGRAM - PARENTS CONNECTED FOLLOW-UP WITH GRADUATES ONCE THEY ENROLL IN COLLEGE. WE PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR THE COLLEGE ATTENDEES IN TERMS OF PROVIDING ENCOURAGEMENT, FORWARDING CARE PACKAGES, ORGANIZING ANNUAL ASSEMBLIES, AND BY COORDINATING STUDENT AMBASSADORS AT COLLEGES WHERE OUR UPPERCLASSMEN ARE ATTENDING. MATH INTENSIVE PROGRAM - OVER THE COURSE OF PROGRAM, STUDENTS UNDERGO AN INTENSIVE IMMERSION IN MATHEMATICS THAT INCLUDES THE MEMORIZATION OF BASIC MATH FACTS AND FORMULAE, THE INCREMENTAL DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICS CONCEPTS, KNOWLEDGE AND USE OF ERROR MITIGATION TECHNIQUES, AND CONTINUAL REVIEW OF CONCEPTS TAUGHT. GALA - THIS EVENT IS HELD TO HONOR THE MENTEES AND MENTORS OF PARENTS CONNECTED COLLEGE ACCESS MENTORING PROGRAM. THIS IS A MILESTONE EVENT FOR PARENTS CONNECTED WHICH OCCURS EVERY FIVE YEARS.
