LEARNSERVE FELLOWS PROGRAM THE 9-MONTH FELLOWS PROGRAM TRAINS STUDENTS IN SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP. STUDENTS DESIGN SOCIAL VENTURES SOCIAL ACTION PROJECTS AND PITCH THEM TO COMMUNITY PROFESSIONALS. SUCCESSFUL PROPOSALS MAY WIN MATCHING SEED GRANTS UP TO $200 TOWARD IMPLEMENTATION. THE FELLOWS PROGRAM SHIFTED TO VIRTUAL PROGRAMMING IN MARCH 2020 AND CONTINUED VIRTUALLY DURING FY 2020-21 WITH A VIRTUAL CAPSTONE EVENT IN APRIL 2021. IN THE FINANCIAL YEAR ENDING JUNE 30, 2021, 65 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE FELLOWS PROGRAM, REPRESENTING 30 DC METROPOLITAN AREA SCHOOLS, AND PITCHING 55 VENTURES TO 108 REVIEWERS. DURING 2020-21, WE CONTINUED THE INCUBATOR PROGRAM SUPPORTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF FELLOWS VENTURES AS YEAR 2 PROGRAM WITH THEIR FINAL PITCH EVENT HELD IN FEBRUARY 2021. 14 STUDENTS FROM 12 DC METROPOLITAN AREA SCHOOLS COMPLETED THAT PROGRAM.
LEARNSERVE ABROAD PROGRAM LEARNSERVE HAD TO CANCEL THE ABROAD PROGRAM IN 2020 DUE TO THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC THAT MADE INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL IMPOSSIBLE. LEARNSERVE SHIFTED TO A VIRTUAL INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM, THE GLOBAL SUMMER FELLOWSHIP, THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED IN JULY 2020. 40 PARTICIPANTS FROM THE USA AND ZAMBIA JOINED THE VIRTUAL INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE, PITCHING 35 VENTURES WITH 97 REVIEWERS.
GENERAL PROGRAMS INCLUDES SEEDING SOCIAL INNOVATION, THE IN-SCHOOL SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM, AND ALL INITIATIVES TO DEVELOP NEW PROGRAMS. IN 2020-21, SEEDING SOCIAL INNOVATION REACHED 15 STUDENTS FROM 1 DC AREA SCHOOLS OR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS. LEARNSERVE PROVIDED A HACKATHON PROGRAM FOR ONE DC BASED CHARTER SCHOOL IN THREE 5-WEEK PROGRAMS FOR 50 STUDENTS.
