BEGINNING IN 2001 DROKPA HAS BEEN PROVIDING FUNDING FOR SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND ALTERNATIVE ENERGY PROJECTS IN THE HIMALAYA. FROM MODEST BEGINNINGS THESE TECHNOLOGIES WERE RAPIDLY ADOPTED BY COMMUNITIES IN THE DOLPO REGION OF WEST NEPAL. DROKPA PROVIDED GRANTS TO POORER HOUSEHOLDS TO BUILD KITCHEN GREENHOUSES AND INSTALL SOLAR PANELS AS WELL AS ESTABLISHED A COMMUNITY ENDOWMENT FUND THAT WILL ENSURE THE LONG-TERM SUSTAINABILITY OF THESE TECHNOLOGIES.
