BARRIOS UNIDOS IS A MULTI -CULTURAL COMMUNITY BASED VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND ERADICATION PROGRAM FOCUSED ON SERVICES TO AT-RISK YOUTH. WE PROVIDE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS FOR AGES 5 - 18; DIRECT SERVICES WITHIN THE JUVENILE HALL FACILITY; AND SEVERAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH IS A PROGRAM THAT APPROACHES THE DILEMMA OF YOUTH VIOLENCE. SANTA CRUZ BARRIOS UNIDOS' BELIEF IS THAT CO-UNITY WORKERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED AND OVERCOME THE CHALENGES FACING YOUNG PEOPLE TODAY ARE BEST ABLE TO ASSIST THEM IN CHOOSING LIFE AFFIRMING BEHAVIOR. THE FOCUS IS ON BUILDING POSITIVE SELF-ESTEEM AND CULTURAL PRIDE THROUGH MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES, EDUCATION AND JOB TRAINING.
