TO PROVIDE SOUTHEAST TEXAS EXTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH THAT FOCUSES ON BREAST, PROSTATE, TESTICULAR, OVARIAN AND OTHER GYNECOLOGICAL CANCERS; FREE MAMMOGRAMS AND PROSTATE SCREENINGS WITH ACCESS TO FOLLOW-UP TREATMENT FOR MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED MEN AND WOMEN.

WOMEN'S HEALTH PROGRAM: THE "GIFT OF LIFE" WOMEN'S HEALTH PROGRAM WORKS WITH MEDICAL PARTNERS IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS TO PROVIDE FREE MAMMOGRAMS AND CLINICAL BREAST EXAMS TO MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED WOMEN. FOLLOWING AN ABNORMAL SCREENING, CASEWORKERS NAVIGATE THE CLIENT THROUGH DIAGNOSTIC TESTS TO ENSURE THE PROVISION OF QUALITY MEDICAL TREATMENT CONTOURED TO THEIR SPECIFIC NEEDS. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES BILINGUAL TRANSLATIONS, CLIENT TRANSPORTATION, AND EDUCATIONAL LITERATURE MATERIALS. THE PROGRAM HOSTS MONTHLY MEETINGS FOR CANCER PATIENTS, SURVIVORS, AND THEIR FAMILIES AND FRIENDS WHICH PROVIDE INFORMATION TO FACILITATE TREATMENT AND STRENGTHEN SUPPORT SYSTEMS. DURING 2021, THE PROGRAM PROVIDED SCREENING MAMMOGRAMS TO MORE THAN 1,300 WOMEN AND ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTICS TO MORE THAN 260 WOMEN.
MEN'S HEALTH PROGRAM: THE "GIFT OF LIFE" MEN'S HEALTH PROGRAM PROVIDES MEDICAL SCREENINGS THAT INCLUDE PROSTATE-SPECIFIC ANTIGEN (PSA), BLOOD GLUCOSE, BLOOD PRESSURE, AND HIV SCREENINGS FOR MEDICALLY UNDERSERVED MEN IN SOUTHEAST TEXAS. MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS CONSULT WITH PATIENTS TO DISCUSS THE TEST RESULTS WHEN APPROPRIATE. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES PATIENT NAVIGATION AND CASE MANAGEMENT, CONTINUAL SURVEILLANCE AND FURTHER EVALUATIONS WHEN NECESSARY, EDUCATIONAL LITERATURE AND MATERIALS, AND CLIENT COMMUNICATIONS WITH PROGRAM SERVICE AWARENESS. INDIVIDUALS DIAGNOSED WITH PROSTATE CANCER RECEIVE SUPPORT THROUGH TREATMENT AND RECOVERY WITH THE COST OF THE TREATMENT UNDERWRITTEN BY THE PROGRAM. DURING 2020, SERVICES WERE SEVERELY RESTRICTED DUE TO GOVERNMENT RESTRICTIONS RELATED TO THE COVID19 PANDEMIC.
EDUCATION, EVENTS, AND OUTREACH: THE "GIFT OF LIFE" PROVIDES EXTENSIVE EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH TO STUDENTS, ADULTS AND FAMILIES THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST TEXAS. LITERATURE AND MATERIALS FOCUSING ON CANCER AND HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PRACTICES ARE DISTRIBUTED DURING PRESENTATIONS AND AT HEALTH-RELATED FAIRS AND EVENTS. PROGRAM MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AND VOLUNTEERS INFORM, EDUCATE, AND ENCOURAGE CANCER DETECTION SCREEINGS, PREVENTATIVE BEHAVIORAL ACTIONS TO LESSEN THE RISK OF CANCER AND OTHER CHRONIC DISEASES WITH EMPHASIS ON CONCOMITANT ILLNESSES ASSOCIATED WITH TOBACCO PROGRAMS AND SECOND-HAND SMOKE. DURING 2021, THE PROGRAM'S EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS IMPACTED MORE THAN 55,000 INDIVIDUALS.
