A FAITH-BASED ORGANIZATION WHOSE MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITIES IT SERVES REGARDLESS OF THEIR ABILITY TO PAY.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

TEXAS HEALTH HARRIS METHODIST HOSPITAL FORT WORTH (THFW) IS A 650- BED, MAGNET-DESIGNATED REGIONAL REFERRAL HOSPITAL THAT HAS SERVED THE RESIDENTS OF TARRANT COUNTY SINCE 1930. THE HOSPITAL'S SERVICES INCLUDE CARDIOVASCULAR SERVICES, HIGH-RISK AND ROUTINE OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY, ORTHOPEDICS AND SPORTS MEDICINE, NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE, AND TRAUMA/EMERGENCY MEDICINE. THFW IS ALSO HOME TO THE 100-BED TEXAS HEALTH HARRIS METHODIST HEART CENTER. THE HOSPITAL WAS DESIGNATED A LEVEL II TRAUMA CENTER BY THE AMERICAN COLLEGE OF SURGEONS, NAMED AS A CYCLE III CHEST PAIN CENTER BY THE SOCIETY OF CHEST PAIN CENTERS FOR PERCUTANEOUS CORONARY INTERVENTION AND DESIGNATED AN ACUTE HEART FAILURE CENTER. IT WAS ALSO CERTIFIED AS A COMPREHENSIVE STROKE CENTER BY THE JOINT COMMISSION AND IS THE FIRST HOSPITAL IN THE COUNTRY TO EARN THE PRESTIGIOUS DESIGNATION AS A JOINT COMMISSION PRIMARY HEART ATTACK CENTER. ADDITIONALLY, IT IS ONLY THE SECOND HOSPITAL IN THE NATION TO EARN THE GOLD SEAL OF APPROVAL FOR BRAIN TUMOR CERTIFICATION BY THE JOINT COMMISSION. THE HOSPITAL HAS BEEN VOTED THE "BEST PLACE TO HAVE A BABY" 20 TIMES BY READERS OF FORT WORTH CHILD MAGAZINE. MORE THAN 5,000 EMPLOYEES WORK AT THIS HOSPITAL AND OVER 1,300 PHYSICIANS ARE PRACTICING ON ITS MEDICAL STAFF. THFW PROVIDES QUALITY MEDICAL HEALTHCARE REGARDLESS OF RACE, CREED, SEX, NATIONAL ORIGIN, HANDICAP, AGE, OR ABILITY TO PAY. THE HOSPITAL PROVIDES CARE TO PERSONS COVERED BY GOVERNMENTAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING MEDICARE AND MEDICAID FOR REIMBURSEMENT THAT DOES NOT ALWAYS COVER THE COST OF PROVIDING THE CARE. RECOGNIZING ITS MISSION TO THE COMMUNITY, SERVICES ARE PROVIDED TO BOTH FINANCIALLY INDIGENT AND MEDICALLY INDIGENT PATIENTS. COMMUNITY BENEFIT IS PROVIDED THROUGH MANY PROGRAMS TO THE COMMUNITY. THESE SERVICES ARE ESSENTIAL TO PROVIDE COMPLETE HEALTHCARE TO THE COMMUNITIES SERVED. THFW PROVIDES THE RESOURCES AND SUPPORT TO NURSES PARTICIPATING IN THE FAITH COMMUNITY NURSING (FCN) PROGRAM. WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO CONGREGATIONS IN UNDERSERVED AREAS, THE FCN PROGRAM HAS COVENANTS WITH OVER 50 CONGREGATIONS PROVIDING HEALTH SCREENINGS, HEALTH EDUCATION AND SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES OF THEIR CONGREGATIONS. THFW IS PART OF A CHILD AUTOMOBILE SAFETY INITIATIVE WHOSE MISSION STRIVES TO EDUCATE AND RAISE COMMUNITY AWARENESS ABOUT CHILD SAFETY. DURING THE YEAR, THFW HAD 217,457 PATIENT DAYS, 37,164 DISCHARGES, 168,752 OUTPATIENT ENCOUNTERS, 138,755 EMERGENCY ROOM VISITS AND 3,019 BIRTHS.
