GEORGIA INNOCENCE PROJECT (GIP) IA AN INDEPENDENT NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO HELPING INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF CRIMES THEY DID NOT COMMIT IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA. OUR MISSION IS TO PREVENT AND CORRECT WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS WHILE ALSO CONNECTING FREED CLIENTS TO RESOURCES TO REBUILD THEIR LIVES.

LITIGATION: WITH HELP FROM CO-COUNSEL, GEORGIA INNOCENCE PROJECT WON A NEW TRIAL AND FREEDOM FOR DENNIS PERRY (20 YEARS OF WRONGFUL IMPRISONMENT); FREEDOM (FOLLOWING AN EARLIER SUCCESSFUL NEW TRIAL MOTION) FOR RON JACOBSEN AFTER 30 YEARS LOST; AND FOUR EXONERATIONS AND FREEDOM AFTER 40 YEARS LOST FOR TERRY TALLEY. WE SECURED A 300,000 DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE GRANT IN COLLABORATION WITH THE FULTON COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE CONVICTION INTEGRITY UNIT (CIU) TO WORK WITH LAW FIRMS AND THE CIU SCREENING STAGE CASES. POLICY & EDUCATION: IN ADDITION TO RAISING AWARENESS AND EDUCATING BUSINESSES, COMMUNITY GROUPS, AND STAKEHOLDERS ABOUT WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS AND PROPOSED REFORMS, WE COLLABORATED WITH EDUCATORS AND EXONEREES TO INTEGRATE LESSONS ABOUT WRONGFUL CONVICTION INTO CLASS CURRICULA, REACHING MORE THAN 2,000 STUDENTS AT 13 SCHOOLS. WE ADVOCATED FOR POLICE ACCREDITATION REFORMS TO REQUIRE POLICE TO TAKE STEPS TO REMEDY CLEAR WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS. WE ALSO CONTINUED OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE HEAD COACH OF THE ATLANTA HAWKS, SPEAKING PUBLICLY AND CREATING VIDEOS ABOUT WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS AND WE WERE SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN AND SPEAK ABOUT RELATIVITY'S JUSTICE FOR CHANGE PROGRAM. CLIENT SERVICES: WE ASSISTED SEVERAL FREED AND EXONERATED CLIENTS IN OBTAINING HEALTHCARE SERVICES AND GOVERNMENT BENEFITS, IN SETTING UP PRIVATE FUNDRAISERS THAT RAISED OVER 65,000, IN SECURING HOUSING, FINDING EMPLOYMENT AND TRANSPORTATION, ACCESSING TECHNOLOGY AND TECHNOLOGY AND JOB TRAINING SERVICES.
