THE SOUTH PLAINS FOOD BANK, INC. IS A HUMANITARIAN RESOURCE RESPONSIBLE FOR SECURING, GROWING, PROCESSING, AND DISTRIBUTING FOOD TO CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND PERSONS IN NEED. SOUTH PLAINS FOOD BANK, INC. ALSO STRIVES TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR PERSONS TO BREAK OUT OF THE POVERTY CYCLE.

FOOD DISTRIBUTION: SPFB DISTRIBUTED 8.2 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. THROUGH ITS NETWORK OF 143 AGENCIES IN 20 COUNTIES, FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED THROUGH ON-SITE PROGRAMS, PANTRY PROGRAMS AND VOUCHER PROGRAMS. THROUGHOUT THE NETWORK, 60,350 BOXES OF FOOD WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES, INCLUDING 20,295 THAT WERE DISTRIBUTED THROUGH THE MOBILE PANTRY PROGRAM TO OUR OUTLYING COMMUNITIES. SPFB WAS IN ITS FIFTH YEAR OF PARTICIPATING IN THE COMMODITY SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD PROGRAM AND 29,662 COMMODITY FOOD BOXES WERE DISTRIBUTED TO SENIORS.CHILD NUTRITION PROGRAMS: SPFB HAS BOTH AN AFTER-SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR AND A SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. HOT NUTRITIOUS MEALS AND/OR SNACKS ARE SERVED AT THE SITES AND THE CHILDREN ARE PROVIDED MENTORING AND NUTRITION EDUCATION. DURING THE YEAR, 76,305 KIDS CAF MEALS AND 59,298 SUMMER MEALS WERE PREPARED. IN ADDITION, 26,297 SNACK BAGS AND 7,565 HOLIDAY BOXES WERE DISTRIBUTED TO CHILDREN IN THE LUBBOCK AND SURROUNDING AREAS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.SOCIAL SERVICES PROGRAMS: FOOD STAMPS ARE PROVIDED TO ENSURE THAT THOSE WHO HAVE LONG-TERM FOOD INSECURITY ARE PROVIDED WITH THE AVAILABLE RESOURCES FOR ONGOING HELP. DURING THE YEAR, 1,101 APPLICATIONS WERE SUCCESSFULLY FILED. SPFB ALSO CONDUCTS NUTRITION EDUCATION, AND 9,355 CONTACTS WERE MADE DURING THE YEAR.THE TOTAL NUMBER OF MEALS PROVIDED THROUGH SNAP AND POUNDS DISTRIBUTED WAS 8.5 MILLION.
