MINORITY FELLOWSHIP GRANTS: FUNDED BY GRANTS FROM THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION (SAMHSA), THE AAMFT MINORITY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS SUPPORT THE TRAINING OF PRACTIONERS OR PRACTIONER/RESEARCHERS IN CULTURALLY COMPETENT MENTAL HEALTH AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE SERVICES, TREATMENT AND PREVENTION. THE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMS ARE OPEN TO MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY DOCTORAL AND MASTERS STUDENTS WHO ARE COMMITTED TO RESEARCH ABOUT AND SERVICE TO ETHNIC MINORITY AND UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS.

INNOVATION CHALLENGE: INNOVATION CHALLENGE IS A COMPETITION IN WHICH MEMBERS OF AAMFT CAN APPLY FOR. APPLICANTS MUST DEMONSTRATE NEW AND OFTEN COUNTERINTUITIVE WAYS ABOUT HOW TO SOLVE THE MOST PRESSING PUBLIC CHALLENGES THAT AFFECT THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS CHALLENGE BRINGS AWARENESS ABOUT MFT'S TO A LARGER AUDIENCE, AND PROVIDES MEMBERS THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE WITH THE FOUNDATION WHICH HOPEFULLY RAISES THE AWARENESS OF THE FOUNDATION. INTERFAITH PROJECT: THE FOUNDATION FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF HUMAN SYSTEMS IS WORKING WITH DR. DAMIR S. UTRAN, PHD, LMFT, AND DR. BENJAMIN ERWIN, PHD, TO HOST THE DEVELOPMENTAL IMPACT OF DISPLACEMENT-INDUCED TRAUMA WORKSHOP. FROM THIS WORKSHOP MFTS WILL HAVE THE RESOURCES TO EDUCATE THEMSELVES, COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, AND OTHERS ABOUT REFUGEES AND THEIR NEEDS, THUS, EMPOWERING THOSE INVOLVED TO BECOME BETTER PREPARED IN ASSISTING.99998 (TIPS - PRISON TO SOCIETY): A RESEARCH PROJECT AWARDED TO DR. AMY MORGAN FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND COLLEGE PARK FOR HER PROPOSAL ENTITLED: DEVELOPING A REDEMPTIVE IDENTITY: A MIXED METHODS STUDY EXPLORING POST-INCARCERATION RESILIENCY. THE GOAL OF THIS MIXED-METHODS PILOT STUDY IS TO IDENTIFY INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RESILIENCE FACTORS THAT BUILD RESILIENCE AND PROMOTE DESISTANCE AMONG FORMERLY INCARCERATED INDIVIDUALS.
