ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES--ACTIVITIES DESIGNED TO ASSURE ADEQUATE LONG TERM WATER SUPPLIES FOR THE REGION, TO ASSURE THAT CLEAN AIR STANDARDS ARE MET OR EXCEEDED ACCORDING TO LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL GUIDELINES AND THAT THE CITY'S AIR QUALITY ATTAINMENT CLASSIFICATION IS MAINTAINED, TO ASSURE THAT WATER QUALITY IN BAYS AND ESTUARIES IS MAINTAINED, TO ENHANCE PUBLIC AWARENESS OF RELATED HEALTH ISSUES.


PUBLIC RELATIONS INITIATIVES--EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO INFORM THE PUBLIC ABOUT ECONOMIC IMPACT SUCH AS PAYROLL, LOCAL PURCHASES, AND TAXES PAID BY PORT INDUSTRIES. CONDUCTED PUBLIC OPINION SURVEYS TO DETERMINE COMMUNITY NEEDS AND POTENTIAL AREAS OF SUPPORT, SUPPORTED ACTIVITIES OF CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS UNITED WAY AND BOY SCOUTS, BOUGHT RADIO AND TV PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS, ETC.
