EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT - THE FOUNDATION MAKES GRANTS TO SHAWNEE MISSION PUBLIC SCHOOLS USD 512 IN COLLABORATION WITH DISTRICT CURRICULUM LEADERS TO FUND PROGRAM ENHANCEMENT AND GROWTH. EXAMPLES INCLUDE DISTRICT PROGRAMS IN THE ARTS, EARLY CHILDHOOD, AND STEM. EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION E2 GRANTS FUND INDIVIDUAL CLASSROOM OR DISTRICTWIDE PROJECTS TO ENHANCE INNOVATIVE LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM. THE FOUNDATION HOSTS LEADERSHIP SHAWNEE MISSION, AN INTENSIVE, 2-WEEK LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOR INCOMING JUNIORS AND SENIORS WHICH INCLUDES LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND A PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES. THE FOUNDATION ALSO FUNDS SPECIFIC PROJECTS BASED ON IDENTIFIED NEEDS.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS - THE FOUNDATION AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO STUDENTS AND GRADUATES IN THE SHAWNEE MISSION SCHOOLS USD 512. IN THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022, SCHOLARSHIPS WERE MADE TO 5 GRADUATING STUDENTS FROM 3 SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS DESIGNATED FOR POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION. IN ADDITION, FEES WERE PAID FOR 3 CURRENT 11TH GRADE STUDENTS FOR SUMMER SCHOOL ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS. THE FOUNDATION LAUNCHED A SCHOLARSHIP INITIATIVE TO BRING SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TO ALL DISTRICT 12TH GRADE STUDENTS BY WORKING WITH COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES TO CONNECT WITH STUDENTS. PARENTS OPT IN AND PROVIDE DATA FOR THEIR STUDENTS AND THE DATA IS SHARED WITH NUMEROUS COLLEGES. THE COLLEGES MAKE SCHOLARSHIP OFFERS TO STUDENTS MATCHING THEIR CRITERIA. IN THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2022 THOUSANDS OF SCHOLARSHIPS WERE OFFERED BY MORE THAN 40 COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES TOTALING MORE THAN 2.1 BILLION.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH - THE FOUNDATION PROVIDED MORE THAN 21,000 IN FUNDING FOR DIRECT EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE TO MORE THAN 70 STUDENTS FAMILIES FOR EXPENSES SUCH AS HOUSING, UTILITIES, TRANSPORTATION, AND MEDICAL EXPENSES. IN ADDITION, THE FOUNDATION FUNDED PROGRAMS TO ENGAGE THE COMMUNITY AND PROMOTE INNOVATIVE EDUCATION IN SHAWNEE MISSION SCHOOLS.
