THE JUANITA MILLER CONCERTO COMPETITION IS A STATE-WIDE MUSIC COMPETITION OPEN TO TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GRADES 9-12. THERE WERE 55 CONTESTANTS FROM TEXAS. THE GRAND PRIZE WINNER PERFORMS WITH A TEXAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. THE COMPETITION FURTHERS MUSIC EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. PUBLIC ATTENDEES NUMBER 90 TO 100. THE COMPETITION RESUMED IN JANUARY 2022 AFTER ITS CANCELLATION IN 2021 DUE TO COVID-19 CONCERNS.
QUARTERLY BOARD MEETINGS FOR MEMBER LEAGUES AN GUILDS THROUGHOUT TEXAS ALLOW MEMBERS TO SHARE FUNDRAISING IDEA, LEARN FROM EDUCATIONAL SPEAKERS, NETWORK TO IMPROVE VOLUNTEER EFFORTS TO SUPPORT THEIR LOCAL SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS. MEETINGS WERE HELD VIRTUALLY FOR JUNE AND SEPTEMBER AND RESUMED IN PERSON THEREAFTER.
TASO HAS AN AWARDS PROGRAM IN WHICH MEMBERS SUBMIT THEIR PROJECT ACTIVITIES FOR EVALUATION. THE WINNERS ARE INVITED TO PRESENT THEIR RECOGNIZED PROJECTS AT THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE. PROJECT CATEGORIES INCLUDE COMMUNICATION/TECHNOLOGY, LEADERSHIP/SERVICE, FUNDRAISING AND EDUCATION. ADDITIONALLY, AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE ARE GIVEN TO OUTSTANDING SUPPORTERS OF TEXAS SYMPHONIES IN THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES: VOLUNTEER, PATRON, BUSINESS, AND LEGISLATOR.
