THE MISSION OF THE FOUNDATION IS TO PROVIDE THE HIGHEST QUALITY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, TO FOSTER GREATER AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF ECOLOGICAL ISSUES, AND TO ENCOURAGE CONSERVATION OF CRITICAL CULTURAL, HISTORICAL AND NATURAL RESOURCES. THE FOUNDATION SUPPORTS THE DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLICATION OF EDUCATION MATERIAL AND A WIDE VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL AND CONSERVATION PROGRAMS. THE FOUNDATION ALSO PROVIDES A WIDE ARRAY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES FOR THE LOCAL, AS WELL AS THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY THROUGH ITS EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS AT PUBLIC SCHOOLS, PRODUCTION OF NATURE FILMS AND PUBLICATIONS. BEST KNOWN OF THE FOUNDATION'S PROGRAMS ARE THE FIELD STATIONS KNOWN AS RANCHO DEL CIELO AND RANCHO EL CIELITO LOCATED IN THE CLOUD FORESTS OF MEXICO. THESE STATIONS PROVIDE A "HANDS ON" OPPORTUNITY FOR STUDENTS TO WORK AND STUDY IN SOME OF THE MOST UNIQUE NATURAL SETTINGS IN THE WORLD. USING THE FACILITIES AT THE FIELD STATIONS, THE FOUNDATION OFFERS STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, AND SCIENTISTS MANY OPPORTUNITIES IN SCIENCE, CONSERVATION AND RESEARCH. USING THE FIELD STATION PROGRAM, THE FOUNDATION HAS EXPANDED ITS EDUCATION AND CONSERVATION COMMITMENT TO IMPLEMENT NEW AND INNOVATIVE PROJECTS OF GLOBAL SIGNIFICANCE. THE UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE VALLEY ("UTRGV") AND TEXAS SOUTHMOST COLLEGE ("TSC") CREATED THE FIELD STATION PROGRAM TO FACILITATE THE ACADEMIC PORTION OF THE PROGRAM IN THE FORM OF SCIENCE COURSES AND SEMINARS, ART SEMINARS, STUDENT GROUP TRIPS, AND ADMINISTRATIVE AND ACADEMIC STRATEGIC PLANNING RETREATS.USE OF THE FIELD STATIONS OF RANCHO DEL CIELO, RANCHO EL CIELITO, AND BOXLEY GRIST MILL BY THE FOUNDATION ARE FACILITATED BY A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH TSC. THE FOUNDATION MANAGES AND MAINTAINS THE FIELD STATIONS, IN PART, WITH FUNDS FROM THESE AGREEMENTS. RANCHO EL CIELITO WAS SOLD IN 2018.THE FOUNDATION OPERATES THE SABAL PALM SANCTUARY IN BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS UNDER A LEASE AGREEMENT WITH THE NATIONAL AUDUBON SOCIETY. WITHIN THE SANCTUARY, THE FOUNDATION OWNS AND OPERATES THE RABB PLANTATION HOUSE WHICH SERVES AS ITS HEADQUARTERS AND AS THE VISTOR'S CENTER FOR THE SANCTUARY.
