DURING THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 2023, THE LAREDO PHILHARMONIC CONTRACTED A NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR TO LEAD AND GUIDE THE ORCHESTRA. DR. HECTOR AGUERO, A VERSATILE MUSICIAN AND CONDUCTOR WITH WIDE-RANGING EXPERIENCE WAS CHOSEN FOR THE POSITION. THE LAREDO PHILHARMONIC PERFORMED TWO FULL ORCHESTRA CONCERTS INCLUDING PERFORMANCES BY THE LAREDO PHILHARMONIC CHORALE. THE ORCHESTRA AND CHORALE PERFORMED ITS FIRST CONCERT SINCE THE COVID 19 PANDEMIC IN DECEMBER 2022 WITH ITS "CHRISTMAS ARRIVES CONCERT". THE "LOVE, JOY AND REMEMBRANCE" CONCERT WAS PERFORMED IN APRIL 2023 IN MEMORY OF THE LATE BRENDON TOWNSEND, THE PREVIOUS CONDUCTOR. THE ORCHESTRA INCLUDED PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS FROM LAREDO AND SOUTH TEXAS AND PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR GIFTED STUDENTS TO PLAY WITH THE PROFESSIONAL ORCHESTRA. THE LAREDO PHILHARMONIC CHORALE INCLUDED COMMUNITY MEMBERS, AND STUDENTS FROM HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE CHORAL GROUPS INCLUDING THEIR INSTRUCTORS. BOTH CONCERTS WERE WELL RECEIVED BY THE PUBLIC.
