THE MISSION OF THE OKLAHOMA COMMUNITY SERVICE COMMISSION IS TO ENGAGE OKLAHOMANS OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS IN COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE WHICH ADDRESSES OKLAHOMA'S EDUCATIONAL, PUBLIC SAFETY, HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL NEEDS TO ACHIEVE DIRECT AND DEMONSTRATABLE RESULTS. THE COMMISSION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSIGHT AND SUPPORT OF AMERICORPS PROGRAMS IN OKLAHOMA.

AMERICORPS IS A NATIONAL SERVICE PROGRAM THAT CONNECTS OVER 80,000 AMERICANS EACH YEAR IN INTENSIVE SERVICE TO MEET COMMUNITY NEEDS IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY, DISASTER RESPONSE, AND FOOD SECURITY.EXAMPLES OF SERVICE IN OKLAHOMA: OVER 5,193 OKLAHOMANS WERE SERVED BY 208 AMERICORPS MEMBERS TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE TO LOW PERFORMING, AT-RISK STUDENTS WITH THE GOAL OF REACHING ACADEMIC GRADE LEVEL PROFICIENCY. IN ADDITION TO SUPPORTING EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT, AMERICORPS MEMBERS SERVE IN FOOD PANTRIES AND NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS TO SERVE LOW INCOME FAMILIES.
