Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE MISSION OF HAPPY HANDS IS TO EMPOWER CHILDREN WHO ARE DEAF OR HARD OF HEARING OR WITH COMMUNICATION DISORDERS TO FLOURISH. WE DO THIS BY EDUCATING THE CHILD, NURTURING THE FAMILY AND BUILDING HOPE FOR THEIR FUTURE. WE SERVE APPROXIMATELY 70 CHILDREN AND 200 FAMILY MEMBERS EACH YEAR. WE ARE COMMITTED TO EXPANDING LANGUAGE ABILITY IN THESE CHILDREN, AGE 6 WEEKS TO 6 YEARS, SO THEY CAN ENTER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WITH THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN SCHOOL. THE ULTIMATE GOAL IS TO ENABLE THEM TO BE ADULTS WHO ARE CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY, FREE FROM GOVERNMENT SUPPORT, WHO CAN FULFILL THEIR DREAMS. FOR THESE CHILDREN WITHOUT EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAMS LIKE OURS THE GAP IN LANGUAGE AND LITERACY DEVELOPMENT CONTINUOUSLY WIDENS WITH EACH YEAR AND CAN LEAD TO FUNCTIONAL ILLITERACY.
