THE OKLAHOMA MUNICIPAL CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION (OMCA) HAS BEEN WORKING FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL MUNICIPAL UTILITIES CONTRACTORS SINCE INCORPORATION ON FEBRUARY 20, 1950. THE ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS AN EDUCATIONAL UNDERTAKING, TO WIT, THE EDUCATION OF ENGINEERS, PUBLIC OFFICIALS, CONTRACTORS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC RELATIVE TO: - SOUND AND PROPER PLANNING FOR PUBLIC WORK AND FINANCING THEREOF, - PROPER STANDARDS FOR CONTRACTS AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS, - UNLAWFUL AND UNSOUND PRACTICES IN THE PREPARATION AND LETTING OF SUCH CONTRACTS, - THE NECESSITY OF PRESERVING FREE, FAIR AND OPEN COMPETITION AT CONTRACT LETTINGS, - PROMOTION OF BETTER RELATIONS BETWEEN PRIVATE OWNERS AND PUBLIC BODIES , THEIR ARCHITECTS AND ENGINEERS ON THE ONE HAND, AND CONTRACTORS, ON THE OTHER, - MAINTENANCE OF HIGH PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS IN THE CONDUCT OF WORK, - MAKING MEMBERSHIP IN THE ASSOCIATION A REASONABLE ASSURANCE TO THE PUBLIC OF THE SKILL, INTEGRITY AND RESPONSIBILITY OF ITS MEMBERS, - MAINTAINING A PRIMARY INTEREST IN CONSTRUCTION OF A MUNICIPAL NATURE, AND ENCOURAGING AND SUPPORTING PROPER STANDARDS AND SOUND METHODS IN ALL WORK PERFORMED BY MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION IN INDUSTRY GENERALLY, AND - TO SECURE UNIFORMITY OF ACTION AMONG THE MEMBERS FORMING THE ASSOCIATION, UPON THE GENERAL PRINCIPALS AS MAY BE DECIDED FROM TIME TO TIME, AS BEST FOR THE GOOD OF THE PUBLIC AND INDUSTRY AS A WHOLE.
THE ASSOCIATION MAINTAINS CONTINUING LIASON AT THE MUNICIPAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL LEVELS TO DEAL WITH MATTERS OF CONCERN TO THE OMCA MEMBERSHIP CONCERNING THE CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY. INFORMATION IS PROVIDED THROUGH TEE ASSOCIATION'S PUBLICATION, TOWNTALK, AND OTHER SPECIAL BULLETINS. COPIES OF TOWNTALK ARE PROVIDED TO THE ASSOCIATION'S MEMBERS AS WELL AS MUNCIPALITIES AND ALL OTHER ELECTED OFFICIALS IN THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA. SINCE 2002, TOWNTALK HAS WON 11 COMMUNICATOR AWARDS OF DISTINCTION AND 2 COMMUNICATOR AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE, 1 MAR COM PLATINUM AWARD, 6 MAR COM CREATIVE GOLD AWARDS AND 4 HERMES CREATIVE GOLD AWARDS FOR ASSOCIATION MAGAZINES.
