2021 EBZEF STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:THE ELIZABETH BOWERS ZAMBIA EDUCATION FUND (EBZEF) SUPPORTED COLLEGE/VOCATIONAL SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 22 BETHS GIRLS IN 2021. SIX YOUNG WOMEN GRADUATED AS TEACHERS, A NURSE, AN ELECTRICIAN, AND A WELDER. CLASSES AND GRADUATIONS THAT WERE SET BACK IN 2020 CONTINUED TO BE ACCOMPLISHED IN 2021. EBZEFS FOCUS ON EMPOWERING WOMEN, CHILDREN, AND THEIR COMMUNITY IN LUMWANA WEST, ZAMBIA, TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATION HAS LITERALLY CHANGED THE WAY THE COMMUNITY VIEWS THE EDUCATION OF WOMEN. EBZEFS WORK HAS CREATED A PARADIGM SHIFT.A THIRD 3-CLASSROOM BLOCK FOR THE SECONDARY SCHOOL IS BEING BUILT UNDER THE AUSPICES OF EBZEFS PARTNERSHIP WITH WORLD VISION ZAMBIA. TWO HUNDRED NEW DESKS AWAIT TRANSPORT AS SOON AS THE CLASSROOMS ARE FINISHED. A MUCH-NEEDED BOYS ABLUTION BLOCK (LAVATORY) WAS ALSO COMPLETED. THE HEADTEACHERS HOUSE WAS CONSTRUCTED BY THE COMMUNITY UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF THE ZAMBIAN MINISTRY OF EDUCATION ENGINEERS. MEMORIAL LIBRARIAN SANDRA KAMULOSU TELLS US, PUPILS HAVE STOPPED MOVING TO DISTANT PLACES IN ORDER TO SEE THEMSELVES IN SCHOOLS. THE SECONDARY SCHOOL HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO OUR DOORSTEPS!THE LUMWANA WEST EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION (PRE-SCHOOL) PROGRAM HAS BECOME A ROLE MODEL FOR ALL THE SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT. THE TEACHERS ORGANIZED A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION WORKSHOP FOR PARENTS TO COUNTER NEGATIVE ATTITUDES TOWARD CHILDREN'S EDUCATION. A POTENTIAL GRANT FOR A FOOD/GARDEN PROGRAM LED TO ANOTHER HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL WORKSHOP ON NUTRITION. BASIC SCHOOL HEADMISTRESS IREEN SANDU REPORTS, WE TAUGHT PARENTS THE IMPORTANCE OF FEEDING LEARNERS THE RIGHT TYPE OF FOOD TO MAKE THEM PERFORM WELL AND ENCOURAGE THEM NOT TO ABSCOND FROM SCHOOL.NEW SOLAR BATTERIES WERE INSTALLED IN THE ELIZABETH BOWERS MEMORIAL LIBRARY AS WELL AS A NEW PRINTER WHICH IS HEAVILY USED FOR PRINTING, SCANNING, AND PHOTOCOPYING. LIBRARIAN SANDRA KAMULOSU REPORTS, READING LEVELS HAVE IMPROVED BECAUSE OF THE LIBRARY. COMMUNITY MEMBERS OF ALL AGES USE THE LIBRARY AS A PRIMARY SOURCE OF LITERACY. SANDRA ADDS, WE AT LUMWANA WEST WISH TO PASS OUR GRATITUDE TO EBZEF FOR THEIR WONDERFUL WORK. WE WERE IN DARKNESS, BUT EBZEF HAS BROUGHT LIGHT TO OUR COMMUNITY. HENCE, PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS TO THINGS THEY NEVER THOUGHT OF!EBZEFS SUPPORTIVE DONORS, LONG-TERM AND NEW, HAVE BEEN MORE GENEROUS THAN EVER. 2021 IS CLEARLY EBZEFS MOST SUCCESSFUL YEAR FINANCIALLY! MORE THAN EVER PEOPLE WANT TO HELP IN SIGNIFICANT WAYS TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE. OUR CONTINUING SUCCESSFUL PROGRAMS AFFORD THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO DO SO.
