GIRLS ON THE RUN OF THE BAY AREA INSPIRES YOUTH TO BE JOYFUL, HEALTHY AND CONFIDENT USING A FUN, HANDS-ON CURRICULUM WHICH CREATIVELY INTEGRATES OUTDOOR EXERCISES AND RUNNING. WE AIM TO ENSURE THAT EVERY PARTICIPANT, NO MATTER THEIR ACTIVITY LEVEL, ETHNICITY, RACE OR ECONOMIC STATUS, BENEFITS FROM OUR PROGRAM. OUR INNOVATIVE, 10-WEEK AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM COMBINES TRAINING FOR A 5K WITH LIFE-SKILLS LESSONS DESIGNED TO BUILD CHARACTER AND ENCOURAGE HEALTHY HABITS AND AN ACTIVE LIFESTYLE IN PRE-TEEN GIRLS. DURING THE PROGRAM, GIRLS ARE EMPOWERED WITH A GREATER SELF-AWARENESS, A SENSE OF ACHIEVEMENT AND A FOUNDATION IN TEAM-BUILDING TO HELP THEM BECOME STRONG, HEALTHY, CONFIDENT GIRLS.

GIRLS SERVED: GIRLS ON THE RUN OF THE BAY AREA SERVED 1,752 YOUTH, 126 TEAMS IN FIVE BAY AREA COUNTIES PROGRAMS: IN FY24 THE ORGANIZATION OFFERED THE PROGRAM IN 126 SITES; 52% IN ALAMEDA AND CONTRA COSTA COUNTIES, 14% IN MARIN, 20% IN SF COUNTY AND 14% IN SAN MATEO COUNTY. OVER $400,000 OF SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE WAS GRANTED. COMMUNITY SUPPORT: WE WERE FORTUNATE TO BE ABLE TO RECRUIT 473 COACHES FOR THE TWO SEASONS, ALONG WITH DOZENS OF SITE LIAISONS. WE ALSO ENJOYED OVER 1,500 VOLUNTEERS HELPING PREDOMINANTLY AT THE 5K, EITHER AS RUNNING BUDDIES OR HELPING WITH THE EVENT LOGISTICS. OUR EXECUTIVE BOARD AND ASSOCIATE BOARD ARE HIGHLY ENGAGED AND ASSIST THE TEAM WITH FUNDRAISING, EVENTS AND STRATEGIC GUIDANCE. COMPLETION OF THE PROGRAM: WITH SMALL TEAM SIZES (A RATIO OF 3 ADULT COACHES TO 15 GIRLS ON THE TEAM), THE GOTRBA PROGRAM HAS A HIGH COMPLETION RATE. 98% OF GIRLS COMPLETED THE SEASON AND 95% OF GIRLS ATTENDED THE GIRLS ON THE RUN 5K?S IN MARINA PARK, SAN LEANDRO. THE ORGANIZATION MADE A STRATEGIC DECISION TO USE UNRESTRICTED NET ASSETS TO COVER THE COLLEGE COACH RECRUITMENT INITIATIVE. THIS INITIATIVE IS THE SOLE REASON EXPENSES WERE MORE THAN REVENUES IN THIS FISCAL YEAR.
