THE MISSION OF THE SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY IS TO END EUTHANASIA AS A MEANS TO CONTROL PET OVERPOPULATION IN SUFFOLK. TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL, SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY IS FOCUSED ON ADOPTION, SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAMS, AND HUMANE EDUCATION.

THE MISSION OF THE SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY IS TO END EUTHANASIA AS A MEANS TO CONTROL PET OVERPOPULATION IN SUFFOLK. TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL, SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY IS FOCUSED ON ADOPTION, SPAY/NEUTER PROGRAMS AND HUMANE EDUCATION.COVID 19 HINDERED OUR ABILITY TO HAVE EVENTS IN 2021 HOWEVER, WE PARTICIPATED IN 5 EVENTS TO PROMOTE ADOPTIONS IN SUFFOLK AND SUPPORT OUR MISSION. OVER 1700 VOUNTEER HOURS WERE DONATED DURING THE EVENTS, 121 OF THOSE HOURS WERE PROVIDED BY OUR BOARD MEMBERS THROUGHOUT 2021 WE RECEIVED 820 ANIMALS. WE ADOPTED OUT A TOTAL OF 741 DOG AND CATS. OUR FOSTER PROGRAM ALSO HELPED ADOPTED DOGS FROM OTHER LOCAL ANIAML SHELTERS.WE PROVIDED REGULAR LOW COST SPAY AND NEUTER OPTIONS FOR CITIZENS IN SUFFOLK THAT NEEDED THIS SURGERY FOR THEIR ANIMAL COMPANIONS. ALONG WITH LOW-COST VACCINATIONS.THE SUFFOLK HUMANE SOCIETY HUMANE EDUCATION DEPARTMENT BRINGS PRESENTATIONS TO THECOMMUNITY AND SCHOOLS ABOUT PET CARE, HUMANE TREATMENT OF ANIMALS AND COMPASSIONAND EMPATHY FOR ALL LIVING THINGS. WE HAVE DEVELOPED LESSON PLANS THAT CORRELATEWITH VIRGINIA STANDARDS OF LEARNING FOR SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN. OUR LESSON PLANS AREAVAILABLE FOR TEACHERS TO USE IN THE CLASSROOM OR A HUMANE EDUCATION VOLUNTEER CANPRESENT THE LESSON IN YOUR CLASSROOM.UNFORUNETLY THE BARKS PROGRAM (BOOKS AND READING FOR KIDS IN SUFFOLK) HAD TO BE SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID 19. THIS PROGRAM ALLOWS CHILDREN READ ONE ON ONE TO A THERAPY DOG AND THEIR HANDLER IN A NON-THREATENING ENVIRONMENT. THERAPY DOGS ARE UTILIZED BECAUSE THEY ARE NON-JUDGMENTAL LISTENERS AND YOUR CHILD WILL FEEL CONFIDENT WHILE READING TO A FURRY FRIEND. WE WORK IN LOCAL CHURCHES, SCHOOLS AND PRIVATE SCHOOLS FOR CHILDREN THAT HAVE DISABLILITIES TO HELP CHILDREN REFINE THEIR READING SKILLS AND LEARN ABOUT ANIMALS AS WELL.THANKS TO DONATIONS FROM LOCAL BUSINESSES AND RESIDENTS WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE OVER 5000 POUNDS OF DOG AND CAT FOOD AT OUR PET PANTRIES AND FOOD GIVE AWAYS DURING THE YEAR. SUPPLIES SUCH AS COLLARS, LEASHES, HARNESSES, TOYS, BEDS, KENNELS, BOWLS, MEDICINES AND TRAINING PADS WERE ALSO PROVIDED TO OUR RESIDENTS IN NEED.
