JUST READ IS A NON-PROFIT ENGLISH LITERACY AND MATH TUTORING PROGRAM PROVIDING STRUCTURED ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO UNDER-PERFORMING ELEMENTARY MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. IN MID-MARCH 2020 THE ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING PROGRAMS WERE SUSPENDED DUE TO THE COVID-19 SHUT DOWN OF IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION AT THE SCHOOL SERVED. WE RETAINED KEY STAFF ON PAYROLL DURING THIS PERIOD AS WE WAITED TO BE ABLE TO RESUME OPERATIONS. IN MARCH 2021 JUSTREAD'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS MOVED TO LAUNCH THE DISSOLUTION OF THE ORGANIZATION AS A NONPROFIT ENTITY IN ACCORDANCE WITH CALIFORNIA GUIDELINES AND THE ORGANIZATION'S ARTICLES OF INCORPORATION. THE YEAR-LONG COVID CLOSURE OF ALL THE SCHOOLS WE SERVED MADE ONE-ON-ONE TUTORING VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE ESPECIALLY WITH YOUNGER STUDENTS. THE PROPOSED HYBRID MODELS FOR SCHOOL REOPENING ALSO DO NOT SUPPORT IN-PERSON TUTORING FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. MORE GENERALLY THE NEEDS OF OUR TARGET SCHOOLS HAVE CHANGED MAKING JUSTREAD'S TUTORING MODEL LESS VIABLE.
