INTEREST ON LAWYERS TRUST ACCOUNT PROGRAM (IOLTA): THE FOUNDATION GAVE 9 GRANTS FOR $150,000 IN THE CATEGORIES OF LEGAL AID TO THE POOR, LAW-RELATED EDUCATION, AND IMPROVEMENTS IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE. RECIPIENTS INCLUDED: GULF COAST CENTER FOR NONVIOLENCE; MISSISSIPPI CENTER FOR JUSTICE; MISSISSIPPI CENTER FOR LEGAL SERVICES; MISSISSIPPI VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT; NORTH MISSISSIPPI RURAL LEGAL SERVICES; THE MISSISSIPPI BAR- LAWYERS AND JUDGES ASSISTANCE PROGRAM; THE MISSISSIPPI BAR-PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMITTEE; THE MISSISSIPPI BAR-YOUNG LAWYERS DIVISION (LAW-RELATED PROGRAM); AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI CHILD ADVOCACY CLINIC. THE IOLTA PROGRAM PROVIDED FUNDING TO THE LOAN REPAYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LRAP) TO ASSIST LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES PURSUE A CAREER IN PUBLIC INTEREST AND SERVE THE POOR OR UNDERSERVED POPULATIONS THROUGH DIRECT LEGAL SERVICES ($7,500). 2 ATTORNEYS EMPLOYED BY IOLTA GRANTEES RECEIVED FINANCIAL ASSISTANT WITH THEIR LAW SCHOOL LOANS (AS APPROVED BY THE BOARD). BANK OF AMERICA MORTGAGE SETTLEMENT (BOA): THE FOUNDATION GAVE FUNDS FROM THE BOA SETTLEMENT TO 4 GRANTEES TO ASSIST WITH FORECLOSURE PREVENTION, COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AND HEIRS PROPERTY PROGRAMS RECIPIENTS INCLUDED: MISSISSIPPI CENTER FOR JUSTICE; MISSISSIPPI CENTER FOR LEGAL SERVICES; MISSISSIPPI VOLUNTEER LAWYERS PROJECT; AND NORTH MISSISSIPPI RURAL LEGAL SERVICES.
FELLOWS- GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS: GRANTS: A GRANT FOR $3,500 TO THE MISSISSIPPI BAR- 2022 CONVENTION AND A GRANT FOR $5,000 TO THE MISSISSIPPI BAR- PUBLIC INFORMATION COMMITTEE. THESE GRANTS WERE APPROVED BY THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE BOARD. SCHOLARSHIPS: 4 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR $2,000 EACH TO TWO LAW STUDENTS AT MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE SCHOOL OF LAW AND TWO LAW STUDENTS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL OF LAW. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS WERE APPROVED BY THE BOARD.
ANNUAL MEETING AND FELLOWS DINNER AT CONVENTION: THE ANNUAL MEETING WAS HELD VIRTUALLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE FELLOWS INDUCTION CEREMONY AND MEMORIAL SERVICE RECOGNIZING ALL FELLOWS THAT HAVE PASSED AWAY DURING THE YEAR FOR THEIR CONTRIBUTION TO THE PUBLIC AND PROFESSION. THE PRESENTATION OF THE FOUNDATION'S PROFESSIONALISM AWARD AND LAW-RELATED PUBLIC EDUCATION AWARD WERE HIGHLIGHTS OF THE MEETING. THE AWARD WINNERS AND NEWLY INDUCTED FELLOWS WERE HONORED DURING THE MBF FELLOWS DINNER HELD IN FLORIDA AT THE MB CONVENTION. KIDS' CHANCE OF MISSISSIPPI SCHOLARSHIP (KIDS' CHANCE): $20,000 GRANTS KIDS' CHANCE WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE CHILDREN WHO HAVE HAD A PARENT PERMANENTLY AND TOTAL DISABLED ON THE JOB WITH SCHOLARSHIPS TO ATTEND VOCATIONAL/TECHNICAL SCHOOL OR COLLEGE.
