TO KEEP THE PUBLIC AWARE OF FAIR HOUSING AND FAIR LENDING LAWS AND ISSUES TO EMPOWER THEM TO IDENTIFY AND ADDRESS DISCRIMINATORY HOUSING PRACTICES. ALSO, TO PROVIDE BETTER HOUSING THROUGH HOUSING COUNSELING.

HOUSING EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (HEED) UNDERTOOK A FAIR HOUSING INITIATIVES PROGRAM PRIVATE ENFORCEMENT INITIATIVE FOR THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT. AS PART OF THIS INITIATIVE, HEED RECEIVED 74 HOURS OF TRAINING, PERFORMED EDUCATION AND OUTREACH IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI THAT REACHED APPROXIMATELY 185,750 PERSONS WHO SPEAK ENGLISH, SPANISH, AND CHINESE, CONDUCTED 17 INTAKE INTERVIEWS, RECRUITED AND TRAINED 18 FAIR HOUSING TESTERS, CONDUCTED 61 TESTS, ASSISTED 8 PERSONS IN OBTAINING A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION, AND FILED 9 FAIR HOUSING COMPLAINTS.
HOUSING EDUCATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT (HEED) UNDERTOOK A COMPREHENSIVE HOUSING COUNSELING PROJECT FOR THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD). AS PART OF THIS PROJECT, HEED PROVIDED HOMEBUYER EDUCATION TO 4 PERSONS. HEED ALSO PROVIDED ONE-ON-ONE HOUSING COUNSELING TO 267 HOUSEHOLDS, INCLUDING HOMELESS, PRE-PURCHASE, POST-PURCHASE, RENTAL AND MORTGAGE DEFAULT. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF HOUSEHOLDS SERVED WAS 271.
HEED ALSO PROVIDED EDUCATION AND COUNSELING SERVICES WITH THE AID OF A CDBG GRANT FROM THE CITY OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI.
