THE MISSION OF THE BALDWIN COUNTY LIBRARY COOPERATIVE, INC. (BCLC) IS TO IMPROVE LIBRARY SERVICE THROUGHOUT BALDWIN COUNTY AND TO ENSURE ALL CITIZENS ACCESS TO INFORMATION RESOURCES ADEQUATE TO MEET THEIR PROFESSIONAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND RECREATIONAL NEEDS. BCLC WILL WORK TOGETHER WITH MEMBER LIBRARIES AND THROUGH OUTREACH SERVICES TO FULFILL THIS MISSION.

BCLC IS A VOLUNTARY, COOPERATIVE MEMBERSHIP NETWORK OF THE PUBLIC LIBRARIES IN BALDWIN COUNTY, ALABAMA. IN SUPPROT OF THE MEMBER LIBRARIES, BCLC WILL PROVIDE A RANGE OF SERVICES TO MEET MEMBER LIBRARY NEEDS. ELEVATING ALL LIBRARIES IN THE COUNTY TO MEET THE ALABAMA LIBRARY ASSOCIATION STANDARDS FOR ALABAMA PUBLIC LIBRARIES IS A CONTINUING OBJECTIVE. THE PUBLIC LIBRARY, AS AN INSTITUTION, IS A UNIQUE SOCIAL PHENOMENON WHOSE IMPACT AFFECTS ALL LEVELS OF SOCIETY. AS PART OF THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT STRUCTURE, THE PUBLIC LIBRARY IS CENTRAL TO THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY. TECHNOLOGY IS CHANGING THE WAY WE COMMUNICATE AND THE WAY WE FIND AND MAKE USE OF THE INFORMATION WE NEED. IT IS THE PUBLIC LIBRARY'S ROLE TO IDENTIFY THE NEEDS OF THEIR COMMUNITY AND THEN TO PROVIDE PUBLIC ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE IN WHATEVER FORM IT TAKES, INCLUDING TECHNOLOGY WHEN APPROPRIATE. BCLC WILL CONTINUE TO PURSUE THE GOALS ESTABLISHED BY OUR TECHNOLOGY PLAN, AND IMPLEMENT AS MANY OF THE SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES AS POSSIBLE.
