IT LINKS CITIZENS WITH THE RESOURCES OF LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL AGENCIES TO IMPROVE THE REGION'S WATER QUALITY, CLEAN UP SOLID WASTE PROBLEMS, AND ADVANCE ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION.

ABANDONED MINE LAND PILOT PROGRAM - PRIDE PROVIDES ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES FOR PROJECTS FUNDED BY THE ABANDONED MINE LAND RECLAMATION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PILOT PROGRAM THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR'S OFFICE OF SURFACE MINING RECLAMATION AND ENFORCEMENT. THIS PROGRAM WORKS WITH THE COMMONWEALTH OF KENTUCKY, ABANDONED MINE LANDS DIVISION ON ADMINISTERING THE FEDERAL FUNDING FOR PROJECTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE'S COAL REGION. THE INTENT OF THE PILOT PROGRAM IS TO EXPLORE AND IMPLEMENT STRATEGIES TO RETURN LEGACY COAL SITES TO PRODUCTIVE USES.
EDUCATION AND OUTREACH - DEVELOP EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS, FOSTER ENVIRONMENTAL INVOLVEMENT BY YOUNG PEOPLE, PROVIDE RESOURCES TO SUPPORT ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, ENHANCE ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY THROUGH THE DESIGN, IMPLEMENTATION, AND SUPPORT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROJECTS, AND ENCOURAGE THROUGH EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES THE UNDERSTANDING OF ACTIONS BENEFICIAL TO THE ENVIRONMENT.
