FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAMSNCFL'S FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAMS OPERATE UNDER THE TRADITIONAL, FOUR COMPONENT FAMILY LITERACY MODEL AND IS FEDERALLY DEFINED. FAMILY LITERACY INCLUDES ADULT EDUCATION, CHILDREN'S EDUCATION, PARENT EDUCATION, AND INTERACTIVE PARENT-CHILD ACTIVITIES. THIS PLACE-BASED MODEL IS BUILT ON INTENSITY AND DURATION OF SERVICES AND IS FOCUSED ON BOTH CHILD AND ADULT OUTCOMES.
FAMILY AND CHILD EDUCATION PROGRAM (FACE)THE FAMILY AND CHILD EDUCATION (FACE) PROGRAM SERVES AMERICAN INDIAN FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN PRENATAL THROUGH 3RD GRADE BY PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY LITERACY SERVICES THAT INCLUDE EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION, ADULT EDUCATION, AND PARENTING EDUCATION. NCFL HAS CONTRACTED WITH THE BUREAU OF INDIAN EDUCATION (BIE) TO PROVIDE TRAINING/TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO PROGRAMS FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS. FACE HAS SERVED NEARLY 45,000 PARTICIPANTS SINCE ITS INCEPTION AND EXISTS TODAY IN 44 BIE SCHOOLS ON RESERVATIONS ACROSS THE NATION.
