FOR THE 2021/2022 SEASON, KEY CHORALE RETURNED TO PERFORMING FOR LIVE AUDIENCES. THE SEASON BEGAN WITH SHOUT GLORY!, IN SEPTEMBER, FOLLOWED BY PERFECT PITCH, OUR ANNUAL FUNDRAISING LUNCHEON AND SHEER GRACE, A COLLABORATION WITH THE SARASOTA BALLET, BOTH IN NOVEMBER. IN DECEMBER, KEY CHORALE APPEARED IN A HOLLY JOLLY HOLIDAY, WITH THE VENICE SYMPHONY. IN JANUARY, WE SCHEDULED CHORAL SPLENDOR IN 40 PARTS, BUT DUE TO COVID CONCERNS, THE CONCERT WAS POSTPONED UNTIL MAY, ONLY TO BE CANCELLED AGAIN WHEN SEVERAL SINGERS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID. INSTEAD WE PRESENTED A REIMAGINED CONCERT CALLED 1.500 SURROUND SOUND, PERFORMED BY GUEST ARTISTS, LES CANARDS CHANTANTS. IN FEBRUARY, WE PRESENTED A.D. 387 AND TOMORROWS VOICES TONIGHT. IN MARCH, OUR ANNUAL PERFORMANCES OF CIRQUE DES VOIX TOOK PLACE FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2019. IN APRIL, WE PERFORMED AMERICAN ROOTS: BLUEGRASS WITH GUEST ARTISTS THE LUBBEN BROTHERS. IN MAY, WE PRESENTED TOMORROWS VOICES TODAY, OUR ANNUAL HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL FESTIVAL. THREE OF OUR IN-PERSON CONCERTS WERE ALSO RECORDED AND PRESENTED AS ONLINE STREAMING EVENTS FOR PATRONS WHO WERE NOT YET READY TO ATTEND IN-PERSON.
STUDENT SCHOLARS AS AN OUTGROWTH OF THE TOMORROWS VOICES TODAY COLLABORATION WITH SARASOTA COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, KEY CHORALE CONTINUED THIS PROGRAM FOR EXCEPTIONALLY GIFTED JUNIORS AND SENIORS PURSUING MUSIC AFTER HIGH SCHOOL. STUDENTS MUST APPLY, AUDITION AND THEN BE ACCEPTED TO SING A FULL PERFORMANCE SEASON WITH KEY CHORALE. THE STUDENT SCHOLARS RECEIVE PRIVATE VOICE LESSONS AND MENTORING ON EVERY ASPECT OF PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANSHIP, FROM AUDITIONS TO RESUME-BUILDING. THE SCHOLARS ALSO PREPARE SOLOS AND PERFORM IN TOMORROWS VOICES TONIGHT A RECITAL AND FUNDRAISER ATTENDED BY KEY CHORALE PATRONS. EIGHT STUDENT SCHOLARS COMPLETED THE PROGRAM IN 2021/2022.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH THE OFF-KEY CHORALE, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NEURO CHALLENGE FOUNDATION, IS A CHORAL GROUP COMPOSED OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH PARKINSONS DISEASE. THE WHERE ARE MY KEYS? CHORALE IS A SIMILAR PROGRAM FOR THOSE SUFFERING FROM ALZHEIMERS. AFTER HAVING POSTPONED IN-PERSON REHEARSALS FOR A YEAR AND A HALF DUE TO THE PANDEMIC, WE FINALLY RETURNED TO IN-PERSON REHEARSALS FOR BOTH PROGRAMS IN 2022. WE ALSO CONTINUED TO OFFER THE COME TOGETHER CHOIR, AN ONLINE VERSION OF THESE PROGRAMS, OPEN TO ANYONE, FREE OF CHARGE. VISIBLE MEN ACADEMY (VMA) IS A TUITION FREE CHARTER SCHOOL FOR AT-RISK BOYS IN GRADES K THROUGH 5 IN BRADENTON, FLORIDA. THROUGH KEY CHORALES PARTNERSHIP WITH VMA, KEY CHORALE SINGERS AND EDUCATORS CONDUCT HANDS-ON MUSIC ACTIVITIES WITH STUDENTS.
