FT LAUDERDALE PERFORMING ARTS, INC IS COMPRISED OF THE ORIGINAL FT LAUDERDALE GAY MEN'S CHORUS AND THE FT LAUDERDALE WOMEN'S CHORUS. THE MEN'S CHORUS WAS FOUNDED APRIL 1, 1986 AND WAS THE FIRST GAY PERFORMING ARTS ORGANIZATION IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA. FORMED UNDER THE NAME THE GAY MEN'S CHORUS OF SOUTH FLORIDA, THE NAME WAS CHANGED TO SOUTH FLORIDA CHORAL ARTS AND LATER TO FORT LAUDERDALE PERFORMING ARTS IN JANUARY OF 2012, WHEN A SPLIT IN THE ORGANIZATION OCCURRED IN 2010, THE OTHER GROUP TOOK OUR ORIGINAL NAME. THE WOMEN'S CHORUS WAS FORMED IN DECEMBER 2008 AND IS COMPRISED OF LESBIANS AND STRAIGHT WOMEN. OUR MISSION IS "TO BUILD COMMUNITY THROUGH QUALITY MUSICAL PERFORMANCES AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT THAT PROMOTE A WORLD THAT VALUES AND ACCEPTS DIVERSITY."

ALL THROUGH THE YEAR THE CHORUS STRIVES TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH OUTREACH EVENTS REFERRED TO AS CIVIC ENGAGEMENTS. THESE INCLUDE SINGING AT A WORLD AIDS DAY CANDLELIGHT VIGIL, CHRISTMAS ON LAS OLAS, COMMUNITY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY, PERFORMING AT RETIREMENT CENTERS, HOLIDAY PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS FOR LGBT ORGANIZATIONS.
