FOUNDED IN 1980, THE MISSION OF SUNNY SHORES SEA CAMP, INC. IS "HELPING FAMILIES AND MENTORING CHILDREN WITH CYSTIC FIBROSIS." SSSC'S PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE A SETTING WHERE CHILDREN AND TEENS, WHO HAVE CYSTIC FIBROSIS, TOGETHER WITH THEIR SIBLINGS AND PARENTS CAN PARTICIPATE IN A CAMP EXPERIENCE, RECEIVE MENTORING FROM CF ADULTS, AND ACQUIRE A LARGE SOCIAL SUPPORT NETWORK FOR FUTURE EXCHANGES OF INFORMATION. THE RESPITE CAMP IS HELD ONCE A YEAR, BUT IT IS NOT A TRADITIONAL CAMP. THE CF CAMPER AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS ATTEND AS A FAMILY UNIT, STAYING TOGETHER IN HOTEL BEDROOMS AND SHARING IN GROUP MEALS. THE CAMP INCLUDES ROOM, BOARD AND ALL ACTIVITY FEES. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A CHARGE TO AN ATTENDEE OR THEIR FAMILY TO ATTEND CAMP. THE ACTIVITIES AT CAMP INCLUDE VOLLEYBALL, BEACH SPORTS, SWIMMING, ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS, PHYSICAL CONDITIONING, GUEST SPEAKERS, GROUP MEALS, TALENT SHOWS AND MENTORING BY CF ADULTS. SSSC'S PROGRAM IS SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED TO FOSTER EMPOWERMENT OF THE CF ATTENDEE BY PROVIDING A CAMP EXPERIENCE IN A SALT WATER SETTING WHERE CAMPERS AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS LEARN HOW TO PROMOTE BETTER HEALTH THROUGH PHYSICAL INTERESTS AND EMOTIONAL WELL BEING. CAMPERS GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND SCIENCE BASED CURES. IN ADDITION, CAMP TEACHES ATTENDEES TO BE PRO-ACTIVE IN PREVENTATIVE CARE, NUTRITION AND EXERCISE. SSSC IS PROUD THAT IN ITS 42 YEARS OF OPERATION IT HAS MAINTAINED AN ALL VOLUNTEER STAFF WHICH INCLUDES BOARD MEMBERS, COUNSELORS, FUND RAISERS, NURSES, RESPIRATORY THERAPISTS, DOCTORS, AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS WHO DONATE THEIR TIME FOR FREE. THE GREATEST REWARD FOR THESE VOLUNTEERS IS THE GRATITUDE SO FREELY EXPRESSED BY THOSE THAT ATTEND SSSC.DURING 2021 THERE WERE NO CAMPS DUE TO COVID-19.
