INSIGHT FOR THE BLIND RECORDS AUDIO BOOKS, MAGAZINES AND ARTICLES THAT ARE DISTRIBUTED FREE ALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY BY MAIL THROUGH THE PUBLIC LIBRARY SYSTEM. THE MISSION OF INSIGHT FOR THE BLIND IS TO HELP IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED CHILDREN AND ADULTS BY PROMOTING LITERACY AND LEARNING AND AIDING IN THE APPRECIATION FOR READING THROUGH OUR PRODUCTION OF AUDIO BOOKS, MAGAZINES AND ARTICLES AND BY WORKING WITH, AND MAINTAINING THE STANDARDS OF, THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS TALKING BOOKS PROGRAM. WE SEND OUT MASTER DIGITAL RECORDINGS FROM OUR STUDIO TO THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS IN WASHINGTON AND THE FLORIDA DIVISION OF BLIND SERVICES IN DAYTONA BEACH. THESE INSTITUTES REPRODUCE THE MATERIAL ONTO PROPRIETARY CARTRIDGES, WHICH ARE THEN DISTRIBUTED NATIONALLY. WORKING THROUGH THE FL DEPT OF BLIND SVCS (FDBS) AND THE TALKING BOOKS LIBRARIES IN FLORIDA, THERE ARE 1200+/- USERS OF HUMPTY DUMPTY, NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC TRAVELER, SMITHSONIAN AND SOUTHERN LIVING; ALL RECORDED EXCLUSIVELY BY INSIGHT. THE AUDIO PRODUCT OF HUMPTY DUMPTY IS IN TURN USED BY FDBS AS PART OF THEIR BLIND BABIES PROGRAM, ESTABLISHED BY THE FLORIDA LEGISLATURE IN 2000 TO PROVIDE COMMUNITY-BASED EARLY INTERVENTION EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN FROM BIRTH THROUGH FIVE YEARS OF AGE WHO ARE BLIND OR VISUALLY INPAIRED, AND FOR THEIR PARENTS, FAMILIES, AND CAREGIVERS. INSIGHT FOR THE BLIND RECORDED 80+ ISSUES OF ASSIGNED MAGAZINES AND EXCEEDED ITS QUOTA OF RECORDED BOOKS. DURING THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30 2021, THERE WERE APPROXIMATELY 90 VOLUNTEERS WHO PROVIDED ABOUT 9,000 HOURS OF SERVICE TO ASSIST IN ACCOMPLISHING THESE ACHIEVEMENTS. INSIGHT CONTINUED TO OPERATE THROUGH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN 2021 BUT VOLUNTEERS WERE LIMITED DUE TO CDC RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING, ETC.
