GREENE COUNTY LIBRARY STRIVES TO MAINTAIN A CURRENT COLLECTION OF MATERIALS - BOOKS, PERIODICALS, MAGAZINES, REFERENCE MATERIALS, CDS AND VIDEOS - FOR USE BY THE GENERAL PUBLIC. THESE MATERIALS ARE USED FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES RANGING FROM EDUCATION TO LEISURE. LITERACY IS AT THE CORE OF IT ALL. DURING 2021 THE LIBRARY HAD 37,192 VISITS. PHYSICAL ITEMS (INCLUDING AUDIO VISUAL) CHECKED OUT WERE 56,301. NEW LIBRARY CARD HOLDERS OF 773 WERE ADDED.
GREENE COUNTY LIBRARY PROVIDES A CHILDREN'S READING PROGRAM AT THEIR FACILITY. THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN SERVED IN 2021 WERE 6,677. DUE TO THE COVID PANDEMIC, THEY WERE UNABLE TO HOST IN-PERSON PROGRAMS, AND INSTEAD HOSTED A VIRTUAL SUMMER READING PROGRAM. THIS CONSISTED OF STORY TIMES RECORDED FOR VIEWING VIA ONLINE METHODS. THEY DID HAVE "TAKE AND MAKE" CRAFT BAGS WHERE KIDS COULD COME INTO THE LIBRARY AND PICK UP A PRE-PACKAGED BAG OF CRAFTS THAT WENT ALONG WITH THE RECORDED STORY FOR THAT WEEK. THE THEME WAS "TAILS AND TALES". WHEN THE PANDEMIC EASES, THEY WILL RESUME IN-PERSON ACTIVITIES AND LIVE PERFORMERS.THE LIBRARY CONTINUES TO SUPPORT THE CHARLIE MAY SIMON READING PROGRAM (USED IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AS WELL). BOOKS ARE ORDERED THAT MEET THE CRITERIA AND ARE MADE AVAILABLE IN THE LIBRARY FOR CHILDREN TO READ. THESE BOOKS ARE FOR CHILDREN UP THROUGH THE 6TH GRADE. THE LIBRARY ALSO SUPPORTS THE ARKANSAS DIAMOND READING PROGRAM AND THE ARKANSAS TEEN CHOICE BOOK LIST FOR KIDS IN THE JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH AGE GROUPS.DURING 2021, THERE WERE 37 RECORDED PROGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING.
