FRIENDS OF THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY HELPS PRESERVE, PROMOTE AND ENHANCE THE OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY, ECOLOGICAL VITALITY AND CULTURAL DISTINCTIVENESS OF THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY AND ITS CORRIDOR PRESERVING THIS NATIONAL TREASURE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

PARKWAY FOREVER PARKWAY FOREVER IS A PROGRAM DESIGNED TO MAINTAIN AND RESTORE VISTAS AND OVERLOOKS ALONG THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROJECT THAT STARTED IN 2014 TO RECLAIM VISTAS AND OVERLOOKS FROM 30 YEARS OF OVERGROWTH OF NATIVE PLANTS THAT HAD BLOCKED VIEWS ALONG THE PARKWAY. IN ADDITION TO CLEARING OVERLOOK OVERGROWTH, FRIENDS VOLUNTEERS DEDICATED 1,756 HOURS FROM JULY OF 2020 TO JUNE OF 2021 TO MAINTAINING AND CLEANING THE 272 OVERLOOKS AND VARIOUS TRAILS ALONG THE PARKWAY. THIS PROGRAM RESTORES THE VIEWS OF THE PARKWAY FOR MORE THAN 14 MILLION VISITORS THAT VISIT THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY.
VOLUNTEERS & COMMUNITY CHAPTERS OUTREACH VOLUNTEERS ARE THE BACKBONE OF FRIENDS OF THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY. VOLUNTEERS DEVOTED A TOTAL OF 7,304 HOURS FROM JULY, 2020 TO JUNE, 2021 TO PARKWAY PROJECTS, INCLUDING MAINTENANCE TASKS, INTERPRETATIVE PROGRAMS, AND HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL PROGRAMS. FRIENDS VOLUNTEERS CLEAN CAMPGROUNDS, MAINTAIN OVERLOOKS AND TRAILS, HOST CULTURAL CONCERTS, HELP WITH HISTORICAL GARDENS, AND ASSISTS LOCAL NATIONAL PARK STAFF WITH SPECIFIC PROJECTS. FRIENDS CURRENTLY HAS 10 CHAPTERS SPANNING THE ENTIRE 469 MILES OF THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY.
FUTURE STEWARDS FRIENDS FUTURE STEWARDS PROGRAM ENCOURAGES YOUTH TO SPEND MORE TIME IN NATURE TO FACILITATE AN APPRECIATION FOR PUBLIC LANDS AND ENCOURAGES STEWARDSHIP OF OUR NATURAL RESOURCES. FRIENDS CHAPTERS HOST ALTERNATIVE BREAK PROGRAMS WITH VARIOUS COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES IN THE FALL AND SPRING. FRIENDS CHAPTERS ALSO HOST SUMMER DAY CAMP EXPERIENCES AND HOST HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE WORK DAYS IN THE PARK.
