Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
TRAIN RIDES: OFFERED TRAIN RIDES TO ENTERTAIN AND EDUCATE THE PUBLIC, ESPECIALLY CHILDREN, ABOUT TRAIN TRAVEL AND RAILROADS. IN NORMAL YEARS WE CARRY OVER 9,000 RIDERS USING DIESEL POWERED TRAINS OVER OUR FIVE MILES OF RESTORED TRACK. WE ARE THE ONLY OPERATING TOURIST RAILROAD IN SOUTH CAROLINA, AND EXCEPT FOR INCONVENIENT AMTRAK SERVICE, THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY FOR THE PUBLIC TO RIDE A REAL TRAIN ANYWHERE IN THE STATE.
MUSEUM: WE MAINTAIN A COLLECTION OF ROLLING STOCK, VINTAGE RAILROAD EQUIPMENT AND DIESEL LOCOMOTIVES, GALLERY DISPLAYS AND STATIC RAILROAD CARS THAT THE PUBLIC CAN ENTER AND EXAMINE. OUR GOAL IS TO EDUCATE VISITORS ABOUT RAILROADING, RAIL TRAVEL AND LOCAL HISTORY RELATED TO THE FORMER GRANITE QUARRYING AND PROCESSING INDUSTRY THAT HAD BEEN LOCATED ALONG THE RAILROAD LINE, AND HAD BEEN THE REASON FOR THE ORIGINAL ESTABLISHMENT OF THIS RAIL LINE. WE ALSO MAINTAIN A GIFT SHOP.
