THE CHARLOTTE AREA FUND'S MISSION, AS MECKLENBURG COUNTY'S DESIGNATED COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY, IS TO PROVIDE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES THAT ASSIST ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED CITIZENS WITH GAINING THE SKILLS AND ABILITIES NECESSARY TO BECOME SELF-SUFFICIENT.

SELF-SUFFICIENCY-CONDUCTED INTAKE FOR 757 APPLICANTS; FAMILIES ROSE ABOVE THE POVERTY LEVEL AS A RESULT OF PARTICIPATION; 98 OBTAINED EMPLOYMENT; 94 EDUCATION/TRAINING PROGRAMS WERE COMPLETED; 101 OBTAINED SECURED HOUSING.
SOME NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROVIDED TO FAMILIES IN THE BEGINNING OF YEAR, THEN PROGRAM WAS DISCONTINUED. IN ITS PLACE, A PILOT SR. ASSISTANCE HEALTH PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED AND SERVED APPROXIMATELY 20 PEOPLE. THIS PROGRAM WILL BE ENHANCED IN THE FUTURE.
