CHS HOLDS MONTHLY LECTURES FROM SEPTEMBER THORUGH MAY, PUBLISHES "THE VINE", OUR MEMBER NEWSLETTER, RESENTS DISTINCITIVE GARDEN TOURS, PRODUCES PLANTASIA, (A GREEN MARKET FOR PLANT LOVERS EACH SPRING), OFFERS THE MOBILE GARDENS PROGRAM FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS AND OFFERS A SPECIAL $1000 SCHOLARSHIP FOR A SELECTED TRIDENT TECHINICAL COLLEGE, HORTICULTURAL TECHNOLOGY STUDENT.

CHARLESTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY (CHS) PROVIDES DISTINCTIVE GARDEN TOURS LED BY HORTICULTURALLY TRAINED DOCENTS. THE ORGANIZATION IS FORTUNATE TO HAVE MANY SUPPORTERS WHO GRACIOUSLY OPEN THEIR GARDENS TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AND OCCASIONAL LUNCHES.
OUR MONTHLY EDUCATIONAL LECTURE SERIES, FREE TO CURRENT CHS MEMBERS, WELCOMES HORTICULTURAL EXPERTS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, AS WELL AS LOCALLY, SHARING THEIR EXPERIENCES AND EXPERTISE ON A VARIETY OF SUBJECTS FROM LANDSCAPE DESIGN AND PRESERVATION TO BUTTERFLIES AND WORLD TRAVEL. OUR LECTURES ALWAYS ARE TAILORED TO RELEVANCY OF GARDENING AND GROWING HERE IN THE LOWCOUNTRY AND ARE ATTENDING BY OVER 1500 MEMBERS AND VISITORS EACH SEASON.
CHS OFFERS CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR ON A WIDE VARIETY OF GARDENING AND GROWING TOPICS HERE IN THE LOWCOUNTRY. THEY ARE ATTENDED BY OVER 1,500 MEMBERS AND VISITORS EACH SEASON. WE ALSO OFFER TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR GARDEN DOCENTS AND MORE ADVANCED STUDIES IN HORTICULTURE. CHS HEADQUARTERS HOUSES AN EDUCATIONAL CENTER WITH MEETING AND CLASSROOM SPACES.
THE BLOOMKIDS IS DESIGNED TO OFFER OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN AND EXPERIENCE THE REWARDING QUALITIES OF ALL ASPECTS OF GARDENING FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN AND YOUNG ADULTS. FROM CLASSROOM WORKSHOPS IN THE CITY OF CHARLESTON'S HAMPTON PARK GREENHOUSE AND THE CHS EDUCATION CENTER TO ON-HAND EXPERIENCE AT CHURCH CREEK NURSERY AND VOLUNTEERING IN BRITTLEBANK PARK, THIS EXPERIMENTAL AND ACCLAIMED PROGRAM PROVIDES VALUABLE SOCIALIZATION, RECREATIONAL AND HORTICULTURAL SKILLS THAT CAN BE ADAPTED AND MADE ACCESSIBLE IN THE HOME OR IN A RECREATIONAL ENVIRONMENT.THE BLOOMKIDS REACHES IN EXCESS OF 100 STUDENTS EVERY YEAR.
