THE ABCCM MEDICAL MINISTRY PROVIDES ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE INCLUDING MEDICAL, EMERGENCY DENTAL, AND PHARMACY FOR THE UNINSURED OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY OFFERING BOTH URGENT CARE AND A PRIMARY CARE HOME. WE SERVE ADULTS BETWEEN 18-64 WHO HAVE NO INSURANCE, MEDICAID, MEDICARE, OR VA BENEFITS AND WHOSE INCOME IS BELOW 200% OF THE FEDERAL POVERTY LEVEL. WE OFFER THESE SERVICES AT NO CHARGE TO THE PATIENTS FOR MEDICAL, (DENTAL WHEN AVAILABLE) OR PHARMACY, AS WE ARE THE ONLY 'FREE CLINIC' IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY. THE CLINIC IS VOLUNTEER LED BY PHYSICIANS, PHARMACISTS, NURSES AND OTHER HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS AND LAY LEADERS WHO SUPPORT THE ADMINISTRATION OF SERVICES WITH A NURSE PRACTITIONER STAFF THAT MAINTAINS CONTINUITY FOR PATIENTS BETWEEN PROVIDERS. PROVIDED HEALTH ACCESS THROUGH MEDICAL AND PHARMACY SERVICES FOR UNINSURED RESIDENTS OF BUNCOMBE COUNTY AND MEDICATION ASSISTANCE FOR THOSE UNDERSERVED OR 'IN THE DOUGHNUT HOLE.' WE PROVIDED ASSISTANCE TO 5,352 PATIENTS, WITH 8,234 CONTACTS AND 3,011 REFERRALS FOR LABS, RADIOLOGY AND SPECIALTY CARE. WE FILLED 16,987 PRESCRIPTIONS WORTH 3,342,550 TO SUPPORT TREATMENT PLANS. APPROXIMATELY TWO-THIRDS OF PATIENTS WERE URGENT CARE NEEDS AND ONE-THIRD PRIMARY CARE SERVICES. MOST PATIENTS HAD A JOB - THREE OUT OF FOUR WERE EMPLOYED WITH NO HEALTH INSURANCE. WE DISTRIBUTED OVER 2,000 MEDICAL EQUIPMENT ITEMS. WE OFFERED INTERNSHIPS AND RESIDENCY TRAINING TO 85 STUDENTS THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH 9 AREA UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES,AND MAHEC.
